Masks and Fogging Glasses

Used in the UK too, mainly by older people. Or muggy.

Wow, close is used in the UK! :exploding_head: Crazy

Muggy is more common than humid Here. :joy:

My parents and I have used that expression.
It always conjures a feeling like the weather is a smothering presence you wish would just back off.

Exactly! I think that’s how my uncle would explain it. :joy:

I have never heard this expression but as a linguistics enthusiast I find it fascinating!

You pronounce it like: “You’re too close to me”

Not: “Close the door”

Muggy describes the degree of humidity. It can be humid without being muggy, but it can’t be muggy without being humid. The line for when you choose to use muggy versus humid is entirely subjective and undefinable, however.

Much like defining a snack.

Humid doesn’t really get used at all here.

I have issues with my glasses fogging up when I use the surgical masks. So, I minimize my use of them. Gotta try the anti fog lens cleaner.

I have no issues with my glasses fogging up when I use the 3-layer cloth masks that I made. Early in the pandemic, I inserted a pipe cleaner into them. Later, when I could buy them, I changed them out for a wire, the type you use for floral projects.

In thinking about it more, I think the fogging issue has to do with how the mask sits on my face and how much it moves, rather than surgical vs cloth. The surgical masks go around my ears. As such, they are more subject to movement. The cloth ones I make have elastic that goes over my head on top and ties on the bottom. As such, the fit is much more snug all the way around and less subject to movement.

Reporting back @illini74. I tried the adhesive nose bendies in/outside of mask. While I don’t like the way they look :eyes: on the outside it’s more comfortable with fabric next to my skin. I still had fogging though  so I finally tried the anti fog spray I picked up at Sams Club (came in a 3 pack) and WOW NO MORE FOGGING!!! And I took that one bendy on/off three times to try on that mask :mask: and it maintained it’s sticking power.

Nerdwax Fog Block lens cleaning cloths really, really work, and they have the added benefit of just being a great cloth to clean your lenses with. We ended up buying them for all of the guys in the shop here.

Are you in the mental health field? I don’t see too many people referencing Jung

Do you cut a slit in it and them slide them in?

It is probably silly, but I worry about the anti fog sprays damaging the finish on my glasses.

Oh me too!!! I’m over due for a new prescription so I’m willing to take the risk, but I hesitated using the spray for the same reasons you have.

Mine are new and cost about $700, after insurance. I am seeing one of my eye pecialists on Monday. I will see if they have any recommendations.
