Magic band Plus battery dead

It’s been 3 years and they won’t charge. If seems lithium batteries do completely die if you let it go completely dead. So much for lasting forever. Has anyone else had this issue?

How long did you leave it plugged in for? If they fully discharge, it can take being plugged for 2-3 days before it actually charges. Don’t give up if you only give it 24 hours.

Once it is back charged, as long as you plug it back in each day, it should recharge normally.

Oh, also…document what you have tried, and if you go to a customer service place on Disney property, they will likely replace it for you if they can’t get it back working for you.

Oh nice! It’s been over 24 hours but not 2-3 days. We’ll keep it charging. Would the gift shop where you purchase them be ok for the free replacement?

We had the same issue with one of ours. I guess you cannot store them for long periods of time when they are fully dead. We had to replace it (purchase) when we got to WDW.

That seems like a likely possibility for, like, everybody.:rofl:

Not sure. I watched a vlogger have this issue, and they went to a customer service place in Epcot, and they got it replaced. I think they tried a few things first, which makes me think it has to be more than a gift shop.

Yeah this has happened to multiple of mine and I mean I tried charging them for days on end (over a week). They die die and easily. I read online you cannot expect to get more than 2 years. But they still work like an old magic band. They’ll still tap in and room key and such. They just don’t light up and vibrate anymore.

How do I know it’s activated if it’s not paired. I don’t care about the light up.

It just works like magicband one. It worked for everything like LL, pics, hotel room and entering the park. Kind of like the one magic bands you didn’t charge them either. You can see if it’s activated or not in the My Disney Experience site.

@gingerSnaps543222 is right. You don’t need them to have any power whatsoever if you just want to use them at tapstiles and room door. That’s because tapping uses NFC, which doesn’t require power. It needs power for using the lights, and also for the Bluetooth functionality such as the games, or on ride photo pass detection, etc.

The ride photos I need. If we have MagicMobile enabled as well does that work for the photos?

Yes. We’ve used MagicMobile, and it works…with a caveat. If you want to be sure the on-ride photos detect the phone, make sure the last app you have used on your phone prior to getting on the ride is the Disney MDE app. The app needs to be active for MagicMobile to work. If you have used a bunch of other apps, then the way phones work, the Disney app might not be active, and so the MagicMobile won’t necessarily work. (Hope that makes sense.)

To be honest, there are only a handful of rides that need it. Most rides with photos still have tapstiles you can use after you get off the ride. Which honestly works better, because even with a fully powered MB+, sometimes rides like GOTG will give you someone else’s photo, and you have to reach out to Disney to have them find your photo after the fact.

So you mean the MDE app needs to be open on my phone and all others closed? If I’m understanding correctly, the usual tab at the end of a ride will work with MB it’s something like HM ghost photo in the middle where you need MM, correct?

“Needs” is maybe overstating, but I highly recommend it is the current app open just as a precaution.

No, it is fine to have others running, just as long as MDE is the most recent app used prior to getting on the ride, you should be fine.

Yes, correct.

Also correct!

Lithium batteries are happiest when they’re in the 40%-80% range. If you let them die too dead, they won’t be able to jump start the chemical reaction required to be a battery (don’t ask me, I’m not a scientist, I just work with a bunch of them).

For my Magic Band+ I charge it to full and then manually turn it off when the app is showing the battery life is around half. Like, actually power it down using the button on the back. Turning it off manually is much more difficult than it should be and I have to google it every time.

So far, it has come back to life every time I’ve wanted it to.

Press and hold until the light flashes red, right? Like for maybe 5-10 seconds? I approve of your procedure.

Yes, I think that’s how you do it, although in practice it’s not near as straightforward as it seems. It somehow stays connected to the phone even though it was blinking red.
