When you pre-buy a magic band via your WDW hotel reservation, does it already come linked to that specific person?

Long story short I want to buy a magic band engraved with my niece’s name, but she’s not on the hotel reservation. When you go to buy the band you can edit what the engraving says.

Could I buy a band via my own hotel reservation, change the engraved name to hers, and then just link the band to her MDE account when it gets here? Or will the band come already linked to my account?

I bought a band for myself when I went on my last trip, but I don’t remember if the bands came already linked to my MDE account or not.

You can change the name but when you are buying under your reservation, they are linked to the member in your group you have purchased for. I don’t know if they can be unlinked prior to use?

They stopped offering any discount and I don’t think they are actually engraved. I believe it is more like a clear sticker that is applied to the back. I had a set arrive without any names on them. When I compared that set to a set that was sent for some friends , it looked like the printed name was attached to the MB+?
