Getting the jitters as the trip approaches. There’s so much I don’t know and I feel underprepared but also that I’ve done all the preparing I can do!
I think I’ve got a solid plan so I’m trying not to stress. We (DW and I) also really want to relax and be fluid, but I know how I get when I tap in.

DL is so much easier than WDW. I remember feeling a little overwhelmed in 2018 thinking I didn’t know enough.

This! I am headed to WDW soon and trying to plan the parks, LLs, ADRs, everything…it is so complicated compared to DLR. You’ll be fine @SamRothstein!

I knew security was different but I was not aware of the degree of different.
They look in every bag - regardless of size. My small cross body bag is ignored at WDW. I knew they’d look in all the gazillion pockets so I didn’t use it.
I wore my cargo pants. WDW doesn’t look at cargo pants.
Everything in my pockets had to come out the first day because I kept setting off the wand. Finally found my tee-niny little faux Swiss army knife deep down in a pocket. I donated that to DL (probably ungraciously - do I really look like a trouble maker 
).
I forgot that thing was there. Missed the scissors and nail file all the rest of the week.
Another day as I was walking to DL I was aggravated with myself for forgetting to put my fully charged fuel rod in a pocket.
Security and their amazing wonderful wand found it. I was so glad to have the charger after all that I didn’t even grumble about putting everything back in my pockets.

I do like the sniffy dogs.
And it can be fast. Quite a few factors.
Now that I recommend it carte blanche, but arriving at opening time after that first wave of rope drop can actually be a decent way to get through everything kind of fast

The guys with the dogs always said hi, in quiet voices. I was glad to smile at their gorgeous dogs and say hi back.

How do I put this? If I were standing behind you my eyes would be rolling to the back of my head as what would feel like hours ticking by as you repeatedly empty something more from your pockets and try the scanner again. May I say it? Don’t wear cargo pants or cargo shorts to DL without first going through every pocket with a fine toothed comb, please! My husband discovered a small pocket knife in his pocket once as we were waiting to go through security. (Why must men always carry one? 
). We stuck it in the bottom of my backpack and sailed through with it. I really wish they’d create a fast lane for those of us who just carry a phone in. People would start traveling light.
OK. Sorry to chastise. I appreciate your honesty and willingness to confess to this faux pas. Sorry about your Swiss Knife. Next time, bury it in the backpack.

Better yet
Don’t wear cargo pants the morning you get off your train at 6 am and of course your room at the Inn isn’t yet ready but you drop your crap and go into DL anyway. Despite not getting your sunscreen, aspirin, or checking your pockets thoroughly. 
Rest easy tho. You’ll not have to roll your eyes behind me in the DL security line.

On the daily my husband “carries” WAY more than that… but his knife has saved the day eleventy-fourteen times.
True story - poor DD(then 14) had to surrender HER pocket knife at the state courthouse bc she forgot she had it. She did get it back upon exit.
Yes please, BUT - they should also keep the sniffy dog. I am so happy when I see the sniffy dog find something.
I don’t see how cargo pants are worse the backpacks so solidly packed they have to unpack them anyway. Or strollers with a bajillion individual bags underneath that the family doesn’t stop to pull out.
Honestly, I just accept that I will ALWAYS pick the worst line for security, the worst line for ordering food, the worst line for the taps, AND the worse line at the toll plaza. If I accept that, I don’t get bugged.

At 70+ years old, cargo pants are way easier than a backpack - even with a small bottle of water in one of the pockets.
At WDW I walk thru holding my fuel rod and cane out in front of me. What works there doesn’t work at DL.
All the women in my family carry knives. My sister probably has 3 of varying sizes in her purse while my niece has more. They say it’s working in retail.

I totally agree! I try to avoid the lines with the strollers or huge backpacks all packed to the gills. And yes, backpacks can be way worse than cargo pants…as long as you don’t forget your packing a knife in them.

Yep. Much easier to assign one pocket for each of your essentials. I recently flew internationally, and bought a fishing vest for the airport and plane ride: phone in one pocket, passport in another, credit card in another, cash in a fourth. It worked great (though I looked like a nerd.) Just take it off at the scanner to run it through, and no need to empty pockets. It would drive DL security crazy, though, as it has 14 pockets. Someone should create one special for Disney, made with no metal; Disney-themed, quick dry.
