Len stirring up excitement about Villains' Land!

Let us know what they think! My DD13 just had a little birthday party Friday night and that’s the movie she picked for the movie time.
Of 8 girls, 3 had never seen. I think it’s on in my house 3-4 times a year at this point. A decade ago it was once a month.

During Covid we had to have two laptops for the kids’ college dual enrollment. I already had one and we bought this one. We named them to tell them apart as we referred to them. We named this one

Dare to guess why?

Cause you wanted to throw it out the window?

Yes. I had to look up who this was. Emperors New Groove is not too well known of a movie and I had no clue who this villain was. Disney had a ton of great memorable villains. This is not one of them.

If only someone around here knew something about scheduling.

Can’t say I love the idea, but I’ll reserve judgement until I hear more about it. If they made it an indoor coaster with cool set pieces it might be great. I just don’t want another Slinky Dog with different station theming. But I would still like to see an “adult” coaster.

I rewatched ENG yesterday because of all this talk; it was the first time in probably 20 years. I remembered kind of liking it while expecting not to (the preceding film, Hercules, is one of my least favorite) - but I remembered virtually nothing about it other than the general plot and the dinner scene. It still seems odd to me that they would theme a major (?) ride after a second-tier movie.

I’ll admit, the whole “villains” concept for a land falls flat on me. So what I’ll be excited for will be less about theming itself, but overall ride quality/experience.

I think about Expedition Everest. I still think that when you take in OVERALL experience (not just ride experience) that coaster still is top-tier for me. It is exciting, but accessible to fair young kids. It has a story you are immersed in, rather than being “told”. It has surprising elements. While I think GotG is a better COASTER experience, I still kind of think EE is superior in terms of overall immersion on a coaster. I’d love to see that level of immersion/experience on a villains coaster.

Thinking about some of the more recent coasters, Slinky Dog dash is arguably immersive in the sense that you are supposedly riding on Andy’s creation, but mostly just feels like an outdoor roller coaster with some toy elements. SDMT kind of fails at immersion for me. It is fun (while it lasts), but actually kind of forgettable. Tron does a great job at immersion, but it is SO SHORT!!!

I guess that there must be a cult following of ENG and I’m one of the members. It’s one of my favorite animated Disney films, right along with its sequel. We love Patrick Warburton in it. To me, it’s a major movie and I’d love the IP somewhere in a park. It’s charming and Kuzco has a great character arc.

I could have quoted the whole post, but I’ll stop here. You can be the President of the fan club, and I’ll be VP. It is hands down one of my favorites and every one of my family members would put it in the top 5 for Disney and/or animated favorites.

To be fair, it isn’t main stream. But I think it is better.
It was sort of a dry spell in Disney films List of Disney theatrical animated feature films - Wikipedia
it was never going to be a Toy Story or Nemo that little Tylers or Jessicas were watching on repeat. It is funny for adults. It doesn’t have much of a musical score. We recite a line or two from that movie on a daily basis. I couldn’t be happier, and Marie even texted me the other day to see if I had heard about it.

Also - Pacha and Chicha are some of my favorite Disney parents, up there with Jenny and Charlie (Dory’s parents).

I really never went out of my way to AVOID ENG. Admittedly, the trailers for it at the time it was released made the concept seem kind of silly (but…NOT as silly as this new “Hoppers” movie), but I wasn’t opposed to watching it. BUT, when it came out, we had two kids under 3, and that’s it. Not really something we’d intend to watch, nor had the time to watch for ourselves. Later, as the kids got older, I think they watched it, which is why I think I managed to catch snippets of it.

I suppose I can add it to the list of movies to eventually actually watch.

Same
I was 28 and pregnant for my first.
I was not in a Disney movie mode.
According to that list, the last new release I would have seen was Toy Story, and the next was Wall•E.
I watched it in maybe 2015.

Yes. It’s definitely in my top 5 along with The Princess and the Frog. They both have great life lessons and redeeming character arcs. I miss that in a lot of the latest movies in the last 10 years.

I’m happy to take on the role.

Disneyland had a Kuzco Poison Sipper last fall for Halloween and it was impossible to find by the time I went in late October. You must not be the only fan!

DD just texted family group chat.

We really do fancy ENG

Been away from the conversation this weekend (even though I knew it was continuing with all the email alerts I was getting!).

I think the main excitement bout Emperor’s New Groove (now apparently shortened to ENG for the first time) is simply around the cast in an underrated movie, especially Patrick Warburton. If he isn’t a Disney legend already, he should be.

These new revelations about Villains’ Land may work against Disney. The other three major projects (Tropical Americas, Piston Peak, Monsters Inc) being on smaller scales, may not drive traffic to the parks year after year as Disney hopes. Families that don’t visit every year may wait until Villains’ Land opens before their next visit.

There’s some truth to this. I’m not one who goes several times a year - I once every several years. I have no plans on going back at least until Piston Peak is open, and maybe Monsters. I’m of an age that may push 2030 out of my touring time.
