Landry's Card: Is there a waiting period?

Friends, with regard to the Landry’s card, is it active as soon as you join or is there any kind of waiting period?

My mom’s absolute most favorite food item she had on our big family trip 2 years ago was at Y&Y - the tuna nachos. If I could explain to you how many times she has mentioned them, as well as how many times she has ordered some iteration of tuna tartare in hopes of finding it replicated in the real world, only to be disappointed. She hasn’t asked for anything specific for our December trip - keeps saying “you know all the things so I just trust you” - except for Y&Y. And because of the short duraiton of our trip and all of the plans we have, we really need to do Y&Y for lunch on our arrival day.

I have a, like, 3pm ressie at the moment but really need something much earlier. So I was thinking of joining Landry’s to get the walk-up option to open up for us. But I don’t want to spend the money to join now since I still have 42 days until our trip and I know that stalking is often a successful way to get a ressie you want.

So my question ultimately is: could I join as late as that morning and be able to use it at noonish that same day?

I’m pretty sure you can use it as soon as you have the number in your email, but someone with more recent experience should correct me if necessary!

I will say Y&Y was where they forgot to apply my credit even though I brought it up, so check your receipt closely before you leave!

Good to know. I’m less concerned about that than I am about being able to eat when we need to, but I will make sure to try to remember!

We had a short delay in getting the actual number but that was pre-Covid so there may be a faster turn around time now. The confirmation email worked for us, but may not in all circumstances.

Why would you wait to get the card?

It costs $25 to join but you’ll receive a $25 Welcome Credit within 24 hours of joining. You can then use that credit towards your Y&Y lunch with Mom.

Also, since Landry’s issues a $25 birthday credit each year, maybe tell them your birthday is in a month when you’re most likely to use the credit. I stupidly gave them my real birthday and never have used the credit.

Because if I can modify my reservation to an acceptable time for free I wouldn’t need to sign up

I see what you’re saying though - so maybe waiting til a week before would be good enough given the $25 welcome credit.

Good thought about the birthday thing. I pretty much never visit in July so I would be in the same boat

Thanks for the tips

I know from experience that if you join during your birthday month that you can only use a single $25 credit each visit.

I tried to use both discounts at The Palm for a birthday dinner ..:rofl: They take the $25 sign up credit first.

I wound up going to Bubba Gump Shrimp a couple days later to redeem the birthday credit..:rofl::zany_face::zany_face:

I think it’s just the sign up credit that can’t be combined. 2 years ago at T- Rex I used both a birthday reward and a $25 reward I had earned through points.

As a side note, you could also surprise her at the next family party by brining one of these recipes (but of course, it’s never the same). Or if you’re like my family, I convince my mother to make four different versions of these recipes and then we do a taste test to see which one is closest & best!

I’m providing just a Gsearch as I don’t want to recommend any specific site or recipe. Google Search

If you know you are going to eat at a Landry’s restaurant regardless, and will get a $25 credit, then it will pay for itself when you use it and I would just join now. In my opinion, it would only be worth not spending the fee if you weren’t set on a Landrys restaurant.

I have only ever shown the physical Landrys card at the check in desk, which seems to work great to hand it to the people at the stand if there is a line of people waiting to ask about same-day tables (which has always been the case at Rainforest Cafe) so I can stand off to the side and not have to have them look me up by phone number or something while people stare at you. So I would join early enough to leave time for them to mail the card to you. Their website says 10 business days.

Personally I always make our Landry’s ADR for later than I think I will need them, to plan for unforeseen delays, and then use the card to get earlier seating when we show up (and then have them cancel the later ADR). I have done it this way now 4 times at RC and 1 at Yak and it gives me piece of mind to have a back up plan.

Excellent point!

Don’t you know that I am the voice of reason around here??

I just signed up because I learned that you actually get an extra $5 with the current promo through Nov 15! This is from one of the restaurant’s FB posts from Nov 3:

From Nov. 1–15, join our Landry’s Select Club for just $25 and get $30 in rewards! As a member, you’ll enjoy exclusive offers from Landry’s restaurants, earn rewards for every dollar you spend, and head straight to the front of the waitlist.

Thanks for this.
Life has been so off the wall that I’ve not yet signed up — but I will go so that right now.

Signed up and then called the number right on the Landry’s website and was able to get my preferred reservation time of 1230. She said they had 12, 1215, 1230 AND 1245 for my date and number of guests. That kind of makes me a little mad? Because there is zilch showing on the WDW dining site. I’m surprised Disney lets them hold back so much availability from guests.

Anyway, my situation is all set and thanks everyone in this thread for all of the insights and thoughts you shared with me to get me there!

You don’t even need a reservation - that’s the beauty. Just walk up and show your card and you’ll be seated next. It’s like an LL for dining.

But I like knowing that we have one because our time is precious on this short trip

I realize I could do the walkup thing, but really wanted to secure a time that works best for us.
