Just dropping back in to say that the more I see of this resort, the more excited I am for it. Even if I don’t say there. The vibe looks very chill and it’s always exciting to me to have a new resort to check out. I probably won’t stay there since I won’t have valid points. Maybe eventually.
As long as we keep our original contract I guess we’d be able to stay there, but whether we do or not will depend on the points level. If they keep it on the lower end like the cabins then we would for sure, but I’m not holding my breath on that. Then again, we’ve only been using 160-175 points each year for the last few, so if we keep that up then in 2026 we’ll end up banking a full a year. We’d be looking at a big points trip in 2027, but I’ve been wanting to stay in a Copper Creek cabin so it would have to be pretty spectacular to sway me.
Everything new -except the cabins-seems to have inflated points charts making a stay feel less likely than a stay at the original resorts.
Yeah… the cabins being intentionally kept to a more moderate price point was nice, but they also are less amenity-rich as a resort as they stand. I have to wonder if they might go up in price too once the new building is built and will likely give the cabins access to a fully featured pool and all of the other deluxe amenities.
But they also have to take a bus just to get to the resort!
And this won’t be a monorail resort. So hopefully the point will be reasonable.
The one thing I wonder is if this resort opening will cause them to run more frequent / more reliable ferries to Ft. Wilderness. I’m guessing they will add a stop — not sure how close the lodge is to the existing boat launch.
It’s fairly close. They could put a walking path between the beach and the HDR buildings. I guess they could also build another dock. The dock at Fort Wilderness isn’t that small though.
Aerial of construction. Yellow arrow is current dock.
Since that square-ish area looks to be where the pools will go, I think they’ll just have a walking path from there to the launch, and maybe they’ll shift the launch a bit. They will most definitely need more, though… the full capacity of Fort Wilderness is already pretty big, so with the addition of a whole 10 story resort it’s going to just balloon.
The easiest thing would be to build a bigger dock to allow more passangers. So I’m wondering if Ft. wilderness dock is going away and the new hypothetical Lakeshore tower dock will service both or if they will expand on what they have. The least disruptive but probably more expensive route is new dock. But that makes the most sense to me. Now, what Disney will do is anyone’s guess, lol.
I don’t think they can change the total required points in a year. So that’s nice.
I don’t know if that is flexible when they’re A. not sold out yet and B. adding a ton of new units. Like, the resort studios at GF aren’t a separate property, so they would have added more total points when they converted them… if they end up considering Fort Wilderness to be one property and this new resort is just an addition then I think it’s a gray area.
My understanding is that once the resort is declared, the points are locked in. So whether it’s sold out or not doesn’t matter.
If they make it one contract including the cabins, there’s more wiggle room for them to reallocate points. Although I’m not sure they did that with the Poly? I didn’t hear anything about them changing the point structure for the legacy resort rooms or the bungalows.
Although I’m not sure they did that with the Poly? I
They definitely did not for the legacy rooms.
bungalows
They didn’t, but there sure was speculation they would, so maybe it is a possibility.
