Keys to the Kingdom questions

Some family members will be doing the KTTK tour in the near future. They are wondering where the tour ends. I read in a thread from 2019 that it ends in Town Square. Is that still the case?

I understand from the same thread that KTTK may include a ride or two. Is that normal and, if so, are there rides that are typically included?

Thanks for your help!

Town Square by Tony’s

I think we rode the Liberty Belle and HM? @StinsyLinson , @ThorKat ?

Rides were Haunted Mansion and Jungle Cruise when I did it.

Yes, this is what I remember as well. Now that Rivers of America is closed though I wonder what has replaced the Liberty Belle?

HM and Jungle Cruise. We stood and chatted in the Liberty Belle load zone for awhile, but did not board.

True story, I have never ridden the Liberty Belle.

For all three times I’ve done KTTK, we started and ended at Tony’s and rode those two rides. The segments in between have varied though.

That’s right!

Really?! Maybe @OBNurseNH and I rode it another time because I swear I have a memory of it!

But I do now recall that our guide took the mic from the JC captain to tell us things.

What? How could you miss “the boring-est ride in the wilderness!”

We rode it for the first time I could remember a little over a year ago…and it won’t be missed.

Disagree.

Firstly the inside had lovely wood panelling and nice touches.

Secondly, watching the paddles working had a wonderful hypnotic-like quality for a zen moment.

Thirdly there were the tableaux scenes both on the banks of TSI and the opposite banks that were lovely. Like the fishing shack.

I might have to remind myself / learn how to add photos to a post now.

To me the loss of TSI and RoA, including the Liberty Belle is huge. I’m just so grateful DLP is not so short sighted.

We’ll have to agree to disagree, I guess!

TSI became but a shadow of it’s former self. I remember as a kid the place was so full of people, and they were running 3 rafts constantly over there. Aunt Polly’s was always open. But recently, it is like a ghost town. Very underutilized. Sure, it is fun to be over there…but Disney needs capacity, and TSI just became a waste of space. (And I’m someone who ADORED TSI as a kid.)

The Liberty Belle was, as I said, boring (and with almost no seating to actually allow it to be “relaxing”). Sure, what you point out is true…but again, I think the new land (even if Cars wouldn’t have been my first choice) will be a huge improvement in terms of land use and improved capacity, spreading out crowds. The preliminary artwork suggests it will be a beautiful change, including new/improved water features, rather than something you pretty much just walk past to get from, say, HM to BTMRR.

Sure, there are going to be SOME people who want things to stay as it was…but so far, most of the time when Disney has replaced something “beloved” with something new, and I was a naysayer about it, I ended up loving the change (not universally, though). So, I’ve become much more open to changes/improvements.

I watched a video put out by a former Imagineer who lamented the loss of RoA and TSI, and he went into great detail as to why. But…I felt his logic felt completely flat (and he was seemingly completely wrong about a few claims), and actually he convinced me that holding onto it would be a mistake.

I’m still unsure if I think Cars works there or not. But…ultimately, the change, regardless of what went in there, was necessary as a means to get to what everyone is ACTUALLY most looking forward to: Villains Land.

They could have kept half of TSI and the southern part of RoA and still been able to build Villains Land.

What’s the point of “having the benefit of space” around WDW if all they ever do is replace existing areas / rides?

Capacity. As I said, TSI used to be full of people, taking large swaths of capacity. These days, other than on a perhaps a few super busy days, is a ghost town. Last time we went, we saw almost noone else on the island the whole time we were over there.

And…when we rode Liberty Belle, there were maybe 10 people, max, on the boat. Occasionally is has more people, but how often does it actually fill up? Very rarely.

Actually…they couldn’t. The Liberty Belle requires access to the canal, which is on the northern half. The southern half is there they needed to cut through next to HM, to provide access to Villains. The only other option would have been to razed part of Pinocchio Village Haus and Enchanted Tales with Belle and put a pathway through there. (They may still do that when Villains Land is built to provide more than one access point to the land.)

ETA: Actually, I’m not sure they could. Looking at the aerial view, they need to allow service access to the backs of those buildings to deliver food, etc. And cutting between the show buildings for HM and IASM is really too narrow of a pinch point. So, I really think the only option is to cut into ROA to provide a means to get to Villains land. If they just kept the NORTHERN part of ROA, then there would be very little land available to actually build Villains. (Which was another proposal I read someone make.)
