My MVT agent has always automatically checked my reservation against any new Disney discounts as they are released. If it is a better deal (it never has been) she would change my reservation to that deal.
Does your TA check for a better deal and switch your reservation even if your reservation with her is an agency exclusive deal?
I think many are missing just how MVT does their deals. MVT doesn’t go the normal route in securing rooms. They deal with Disney business and convention dept. It’s still Disney just a different dept. Here is how I am told they get the deals they do. They book rooms in lots of ten with for no less than three days stay. If the client should back out MVT eats the cost. Disney gets paid either way so they give MVT a big discount. Most TA’s will only guarantee payment to Disney if the client doesn’t back out, otherwise they want a portion back of what they paid Disney. This is the big difference. MVT does give slight discounts for tickets and the DDP. Room only is where the big discount comes weather you include tickets and or DDP. Tickets and or DDP are not always available in the deal and deals are generally for specific dates and the dates determine just how good the deal will be. Also the deal depends on the type of resort room your booking as the higher the class, the bigger the discount. Read my earlier post to see an example of just how much you can possibly save. There is a slight catch on the ticket portion if you go with MVT. They offer only 8 days of tickets and one fun day such as a water park. Again, the deal is in the room not the tickets and or DDP. Hope this helps as this is what was explained to me on how MVT is able to do what they do for certain dates. I believe it is also explained in the Big Book as well.
Yes she does! She always checks and last February we had a few discussion around AP rates when I had an agency exclusive. I decided to go with the AP rate because it was CL stays.
How you purchase them or how many does not matter as it is MVT that is purchasing in these lots and times and it doesn’t reflect on what you actually purchase via MVT is my understanding.
Has anyone used them for dates that are outside of the range of their agency exclusive dates? Our late-november timeframe is not one of the agency exclusives listed on their website, sadly.
No, I have not, but as stated in a earlier post I did cancel a trip in leu of the price difference. It was definitely worth it and the tweaking that was required to get within their date specials. I believe that if you are not within their date specials, you can basically get the same deal as they by booking on-line. Of coarse they will book it for you if you want to use them but the savings are not there.
Sadly, we don’t have the flexibility to make our dates fit within their specials. Thanks for the info though – I will have to get a quote from them for any future trips!
They did indicate there was some flexibility around those dates but it was something on the order of 5 days - basically overlapping stay type territory. If you’re close on dates, call or email and ask - if you’re off a week or more, you’re out of luck…
That’s great to hear! Our dates are 11/26 to 12/4 and their exclusive starts on 12/1 so maybe I’m close enough? I will email for a quote – can’t hurt to find out, right?
Excellent. This is the information I wanted, since I could’t understand how one TA could possibly get better deals than others. But it is based on HOW they are dealing with Disney that makes the difference.
I wanted to drop back in and thank everyone on this tread – especially @Damavs and @PrincipalTinker – for encouraging me to bite the bullet and get a quote from MVT. Even at a standard room at Pop they are saving us 35% off the rack rate, which is enough of a savings that it will even beat out Free Dining (which I appreciate, since the DDP does not match nicely to the way we eat). When I got the quote I literally emailed the agent back to ask what the catch was – did the price not include tax? (It did.) Was the parking fee additional? (MVT bookings are exempt for 2018.)
Highly, highly recommend that anyone on the fence about doing it contact them for a quote!
Edited to add: They didn’t even have to book us a split stay, @PrincipalTinker! My agent told me the same thing as @Damavs’s – that they have 5 days of flexibility around their published dates.
Thanks everyone! I haven’t been on in a few days. Great advice!! I sent in a quote request last week but haven’t heard back. I don’t know if that’s normal for it to take this long. We will see what happens. I may call if I don’t hear soon. Thanks again!!
When I sent in my quote request, I got an auto-reply acknowledgment that had this at the bottom:
“**Due to a systems/email issue, that we are working to correct, some client requests are not coming through to our Inbox. If you do not hear from an agent in 24 hours ( excluding weekends and holidays) please send an email to michele@magicalvacationstravel.com or samantha@magicalvacationstravel.com. This will help better assist you in your vacation planning. Thank you for your patience. **”
If it’s been more than 24 hours, I’d email or call to follow up.
That happened to me too. Contact them through a message on their Facebook page. They are having some technical issues getting emails through their website for some people, especially Yahoo email addresses.
