Is it worth it to add a few days to my WDW Trip to go to Universal to see EPIC?

I was honestly hoping to hate Epic but I loved it and was so happy I visited (last month). I know @josephmatt said the food is cheaper at Disney, but the QS restaurants at Epic cannot be compared to QS restaurants at any other theme park. You can compare the QS restaurant food at Epic to some other theme park TS restaurants (and it may win).

For years Disney has been the expert in creating immersive worlds. I think Universal just won that battle.

To each their own and I do like the older parks but I find this one leaps and bounds better, like Disney CarsLand or Pandora quality better land theming. I do love the scavenger hunt interactive games a lot as well. As I age some of their aggressive roller coasters and simulators (particularly the number of them in the original park) is not my favorite and I avoid a lot nowadays in the main park including Simpons, Jimmy, Despicable Me, VillainCon, F&F and Transformers so I concur that it’s the weakest park overall but I don’t think it’s anything like Epic which has zero simulators minus HP ride which is still worth it due to the size/scope.

Epcot is my favorite disney park because I can just sit in World Showcase and feel like I’m in a magical world. Epic is in the same vein for me.

I do understand they don’t have enough attractions, they have lots of mini-breakdowns (I think we experienced like 7 over 2 days compared to 1 at WDW over 4 days though the one at WDW was hours long and none of the Epic ones made us leave the line) but I don’t like any of those themes in and of themselves based on IP and I thought every single land was stunning in design and its ability to transport.

I’m curious if you do ever go in the future if you stick with this assessment or change it. I also read Len’s comments as go in with a good plan and expect ride breakdowns, not don’t go.

Agree with that last sentence. It’s Disney Sea quality and that’s saying something

Im sure I will try it at some point and will keep an open mind…..I wasn’t referring to Len in particular but more of the group as a whole………I guess Im just a Disney guy……..I really dont like anything in Universal except the Harry Potter themed lands

This whole park is themed even better than those lands! ;-). Paris is insane!

I hope you do a trip report!

Yes, in general Disney has always “won” for me. My kids prefer universal. But this park changed that for me with respect to it. I’d still choose Disney in general over universal if you made me pick!

You don’t need Express to enjoy the parks.

We did two days at Epic in February. Glad we went. Probably won’t go back. It is one and done. Absolutely gorgeous, and the standout ride is Stardust Racers. Hands down the best ride in the park.

Next is Monsters Unchained.

After that, other rides are okay and perhaps fun, but the waits are insanity. Some rides were a disappointment (Battle at the Ministry was a let down of a ride…but the queue is the highlight! It is actually worth an hour and a half JUST for the queue.)

The food we had was some of the best we have had at Universal parks.

I will do a trip report……Is there a separate thread I can do that?

Here’s a preview of my trip and any suggestions would be welcomed

Trip is June 27-July 2……..I have a huge crew this time…….Its me, wife, dd21, ds20 and dd17 year old……both girls are bringing a friend……..Our neighbors are coming with us for first time (although they are Disney people too) and theres 1 adult and 3 teenage boys…….Our close family friend’s are also coming with us, family of 6, parents and 25, 23, 20 boys and a 17 year old daughter………..I have 2 rooms for the 17 of us…….. a 3br at BLT for 11 of us……i got a 2br at BLT fior the family of 6…….

I like to have a full first day so instead of flying out of Boston on Saturday morning, we are taking the last flight out of Boston on Friday night…….I have done this the last 6-7 times we have gone…..The flights are usually way cheaper (and paying for 5 of us saving $200 per flight is huge) and I use my Bonvoy points to stay at Residence Inn….This way I save money and get a full day on our first park day……

6/27 Saturday - AK from 10-3……Have lunch at Nomad…..check in to BLT and adults are going to Cal grill and all the kids are going to Steakhouse 71 for dinner and then Villans Lair

6/28 Sunday - Pool in am and then HS at 3pm til close……..Have Ogas, then Sci Fi for lunch and Brown Derby for dinner…….Ending with Fantasmic

6/29 - off day….was a little torn on this because its extra hours at Epcot but we wanted to do 2 parks days, day off, 2 park days and day off……..any suggestions?……..rented Cabanas at Typhoon Lagoon……..early dinner at Boathouse at 6pm in Disney Springs and adults going to do a monorail pub crawl when we get back (Outer Rim, put name in at Trader Sams and hit Tambu while we wait, then Enchanted Rose and finish Villains Lair if still open……….

6/30 - Epcot …..pool in am and 3pm start, lunch at Space 220……Dinner Via Napoli…….Geo lounge for adult 8:30pm for fireworks

7/1 - Magic Kingdom……..pool in am…..3pm start…….Beak and Barrell……QS lunch (prob Pecos Bill)…..Be Our Guest dinner……booked the post fireworks dessert party with Garden seating

7/2 - Pool all day….Dinner Ohana……flight home 7pm

Love any feedback……..Thanks

If i was there for only 1 day I would want it

I often do this too. Did you see that Logan added TSA wait times (real time reporting) to their app?

I did not, thanks for the heads up……although the last 3-4 times i flew, easter to Ireland and last weekend to Naples FL for a wedding, there was not a single person in line…….walked all the way through right to the security scanning

Under the Walt Disney Category , there is a subcategory “trip reports”. You can also post it in LaCava for a more private thread.

I’ll believe one and done when I see it. I bet yall go back in the 2030s when they have all the new rides like Zelda and flying brooms roller coaster?

I should clarify that statement. One and done based on what is there today. We have been to UOR several times, but Epic was suprisingly not something I feel compelled to return to. If we DID return to a UOR trip in the next few years, we would probably just hop over to Epic for some food, and a ride on Stardust and Monsters Unchained. But the lands were so small and overly crowded, it just wasn’t fun, and most of the rides weren’t enough to make us want to return. (The whole family felt this way, 10 of us total.)

After some additional expansion (and hopefully better crowd management), we could change our minds. We had a lot we loved there, but we had more we felt was either meh, or just downright annoying.

I would 100% recommend going to see Epic Universe! We stayed at the Stella Nova Resort and you can’t beat a 10 minute walking path to Epic Universe. (Make sure to stay at Stella Nova and not at the sister resort, Terra Nova, which DOESN’T have a straightforward walking path to EU). None of the Deluxes (even the one inside EU) offer free Express Passes to EU so you don’t “need” to stay deluxe during the EU portion of your trip. We were quite happy with our Stella Nova stay due to the easy walk to EU and the solid quick service options.

EU is amazing but can definitely have rough days in terms of huge wait times, depending on weather or ride downtime. Since we only did 1 day at EU, we purchased the very pricey Express Pass to hedge against a bad wait time day. At least the current XP now includes almost all the attractions (except Dragon’s Racers Rally). Or you can do what Disney Tourist Blog recommends- to go for 2 days to give yourself more wiggle room.

I did a Trip Report in summer 2025 (“2025 Universal and Disney Trip and FOOD Report) and you can scroll down to Day 3 to get an idea of how a full day at EU with XP went.

Your enhanced WDW trip sounds great! I am left wondering what time of year you are going? I have been holding off on Epic and considering when to go also. We will be in WDW for an extended trip this summer but are going to hold off on Epic until a separate trip next winter. After following Tom Bricker’s reports, it sounds as though Epic can be brutally hot in the summer with little shade, so I want our visit to be in more temperate weather. And, tickets to UOR are quite pricey for a 1-2 day park-to-park, so I’d rather go for several days, get more value per day for the tickets and have plenty of time to enjoy everything. Buying tickets for both UOR and WDW in one trip is a lot. I have also mostly done one-day visits to UOR during a WDW trip, but now wanting to have a couple of days to explore Epic as well as time in the other parks, I decided to just make a separate trip of it. If you are not going to make it back to Orlando anytime soon, however, it may be worth it to add Epic on while you are there.
