We’re planning a trip to Walt Disney World soon, and with the Florida heat, I’m thinking about picking up a portable neck fan before we go. I’ve been looking at a few popular options like the JISULIFE Portable Neck Fan, the TORRAS COOLiFY Air, and the Gulaki Neck Fan, but it’s hard to tell how they perform outside of online reviews.
We’ll be spending long days walking around the parks, waiting in outdoor lines, and watching shows, so comfort and battery life are probably my biggest concerns.
If you’ve used a neck fan at Disney, did it actually help keep you comfortable throughout the day? Which model did you use, and would you buy the same one again? Were there any downsides, like noise, weight, or needing to recharge before the day was over?
I’d love to hear some real-world experiences before I decide. Advice from people who’ve actually taken one to Disney is much more useful than reading another list of “best portable neck fans.”
I personally don’t like the neck fans. It’s just another thing on me when it is too hot already.
I do like my handheld one. It’s strong if a little loud, and the handle folds down to make it more compact for packing in a day bag. This also allows for it to be placed on a surface and positioned for use poolside for example or while getting ready in the morning or while sleeping. It is rechargeable and the charge holds up easily through use while in parks. I love it and use it almost daily at home in addition to using it in the park. It does have a strap so that you could hang it from your neck; I do this when going through security.
Torras coolify can be effective because parts that touch one actually physically get cold to the touch. It can make a notable difference when, say, in lines during the hottest months. Depending on which setting one uses, the battery won’t last all day, but can use judiciously to cool. The effect is good enough that we’ll bring them in a backpack any day during hot seasons (a long stretch of time in Orlando).
We have neck fans, pendant fans, and the handheld ones. While they each help, the handheld ones are the best. (Similar to the one @OBNurseNH highlighted.)
They are small, lightweight, and you can target the air exactly where you need it. We actually like using them once you step inside the A/C most of all because you are blowing cold, dry air. Any of the fans, when used outside in the extreme heat, only help marginally since it is blowing hot, humid air at you…but still better than nothing.
We also tried cooling towels. They can help, but more of a hassle than anything.
I haven’t used a fan at all but some folks I’ve been with have and they do make a difference, especially during meals. Resting on the table and blowing air in your direction.
The one thing that’s kept me most comfortable at midday - other than resting at the resort - is using a flavorless electrolyte in my beverages. Starting with a few drops in my breakfast orange juice. And water. And everything to follow.
I love this little fan. It can be worn around your neck but I usually hold it ( it was a handle). I also like that it can be placed on a flat surface like a table if needed.
I thought long and hard before buying a neck fan. While at WDW I would stop people that had one how they liked it. The response was always we love it. Now I and my wife always brought the wet towel things, and they did help for a bit. Problem was you were always wet down the front . One day I saw this Costco ad for two **JISULIFE Portable Neck Fans for the price of one. Vanilla in color with five speeds. I bought them and have now used them twice at WDW. The thing is the air is not that cool but the fan keeps it moving in front of your face. I usually set mine to speed 2. Now I would not go without it. in other words I love it! Now at first I felt it would be a pain hanging around one’s neck, but after a while you don’t even notice it. I see a lot of people with the hand fans but frankly you have to hang on to them and they don’t cool you like the neck fans. Everyone I see at WDW with some other type of fan, I advise them to get a neck fan and even let them put mine on their neck to try it out. They all state “I got to get one of these”. So you wanted opinions so you have mine after much research.
Not sure the brand but there are lots available on Amazon.
100% the only reason I can survive the parks in July (and most of the year really) is with my UV blocking umbrella and my handheld fan.
We don’t have fans but we do take cooling towels for our necks if it’s hot. They do have a big impact and they add basically no weight to our backpack. I’m curious how you like the fans if you decide to get them.
