Impact of Rock the Universe on crowd

We are going to Universal Studios from Jan 18 to 25 and from what I can see on Universal’s webpage it is the weekend for Rock the Universe. This event does not appear on the current crowd calendar so I am not sure if it is being taken into account. What is the impact of that event on the crowd? Thanks!

This is potentially a question for @bebe80 or @darkmite2 (who I haven’t seen around these parts in a while – :waving_hand: hi friend!).

Generally I would say since there are so many smaller events throughout the year, including ones that UOR does not officially sponsor, you can run into unexpected crowds regardless. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. That is generally a good time to be there, at least apart from MLK weekend (which will cover the 18-19 of your trip at least).

Hey! Yeah… Now, that I’m not bored & stuck at a desk looking at a screen all day I’ve been less vigilant about TP. I do think about logging on & saying “Hello!” almost every day! However, I’m either busy or I’ve just spent hours online applying for jobs and I need a screen break.

(BTW - Everything is still OK at home. I’ve actually accepted and quit two jobs over the last 5 months during my search for a new “forever” job. The job listings have comed to a crawl with the start of Thanksgiving & the end of the year.)

I miss @bebe80 as well!!

Ok…so back to the question for @Nephasto2099

This is mainly a “locals” event. Guests can enter only USF, the park holding the concerts, at 4pm with a standard event ticket. The only way for them to visit both parks is to buy an upgraded multi-night pass for over $100 extra.

Most people that are attending are local church organizations and youth groups. They, typically, don’t enter the parks before that 4pm time or park hop. Most will enter around 5pm.

So… You won’t notice a diifference at USF or IOA until around 4:30pm - 5pm. After 5pm the crowd at the front of USF, where the concert stage is located, will be massive. It’s an open area with general / “festival” seating. (You sit on the ground or stand.)

The area is barricaded off, somewhat, to help crowd flow. It’s still A LOT of foot traffic though.

IOA will see an increase in people that will want to leave USF before the concert crowds arrive. It won’t be massive, but still noticable.

Overall, you’ll be fine until 5pm.. Those last couple hours will be when it ges hectic.

We actually try to avoid Rock the Universe. The concerts are in the park in the evenings and lots of church groups/teens will be visiting. It’s a popular lineup for those who enjoy that type of music. I believe there is even an event in the park on Sunday morning. I’m not sure it will affect wait times as much as feels like crowds and hotels. I can’t speak from experience. I think I read an article about it on Orlando Informer. I’ll try to find it.

This one too about what to expect ( near the end of the article) ROCK THE UNIVERSE: Here’s a Few Things to Know Before You Go | TouringPlans.com Blog

I wouldn’t be super worried about it, especially since you’ll have been there almost a week already and hopefully done much of what you wanted at least once.

Exactly! Personally, I go to USF for RD on those mornings and then do IOA for the late day. Or I just go to the best park at UOR, Volcano Bay, and not worry about any of it!
