I'm going to Disneyland Paris! (now featuring Trip Report!)

Even for lunch time you get the feeling that your dining at twilight. I love that place.

Hmm. Good question. No, is my instinctive answer. Why? Two things, I think.

First, characters. It’s not enough for me. I love the fur characters and interactions with them. They wave at you from the station platform on Main Street. And there are what they’re calling “selfie spots”, where a character interacts from behind a rope or barrier. But no parades, obviously. I haven’t seen any cavalcades.

Second, no shows. Well there is the Lion King thing, but you have to book a spot via an app and it’s like getting on ROTR. No fireworks of course.

What you’re getting right now is an exquisitely detailed theme park with some great rides. But COVID took the magic away.

Also, for me, the fact that the weather is like a lovely English summer day (which makes it ideal for touring) is a disappointment. As I’ve often said, the heat and humidity of Florida is a real plus for me. I like being unambiguously in another country.

I’ll tell you what I did find. My doppelgänger. This is so me, in every respect —

Actually, it has been overcast much of the time. Magic implies blue skies and fluffy clouds to me. I’ve never bought into the poncho-up and carry-on nonsense.

We discovered something actually quite magical in our trip.

If you, in fact, make the effort to pack your ponchos and galoshes for your shoes, it will keep the rain at bay.

If, however, you decide, based on the weather report, to not bother carrying around the ponchos, it will, in fact, rain.

Maybe a released adrenaline kind of thing? Grab a coffee, find a nice quiet spot and chill for a bit. People watch and take in the atmosphere.

At the insistence of a friend, I bought and brought a premium umbrella. Zero rain so far. Though mostly grey skies.

interesting. thanks for your thoughts. i wonder if dlp offers more of the wdw magic—if covid weren’t an issue. obviously, a non-covid trip would give you an experience wholly different than the current one (and you’d not be there and instead at wdw in october). for a park (dlp) that seems a bit easier for you to access, i’ll be curious to hear at trip’s end if you see yourself returning to dlp in the future when/if covid relents.

continue to enjoy yourself (and hope the chest tightening/breathing concerns ease up)!

Two comments from me! First, I know not everyone here loves Easywdw, but all these pictures make me want to scream “feels crowded.”

Second, I just watched the DLP episode of the Imagineering Story and it was very interesting to learn about the origins of the park. Like you mention above, the very specifically wanted everything to be beautiful. And they had to go extra “fantasy” on the castle because there were already real castles in France.

Enjoy!!!

Just caught up with your day so far. I love the DLP version of It’s a Small World! I might even say it’s better than DLR …

Yeah they used an off-the-shelf manufacturer for that coaster due to budget constraints. I wish they’d gone with a grander design. I’d say it’s a big step up from Barnstormer, but closer to Primeval Whirl than Space Mountain.

It reminds of the Blue Bayou in DLR.

I haven’t been yet. I wanted to go this year but a cross country trip isn’t in the cards, lol.
