I would try to add in Carnation Cafe if you can. It’s on main street so not that hard to get to from either park. There is something about and watching people walk by on Main St while eating at the restaurant where Walt ate that gets to me. Also, the food is really good in our opinion.
I’m thinking the beef birria sandwich with a couple treats
I’ve heard this too. Every vlogger I watch always enjoys the Reactor Melt sandwich. That’s what I’m doing too. It’s not a “large” sandwich. I need stomach space for that candy bar!!
This is what I want to taste test!! I’m getting churros at Disneyland, Knott’s and a off-site specialty place called Don’s Churros
This is my concern. I’d like a hot googey cookie. Not a warm brick… It’s not a “must-have”, but was something I was hoping would be better than average
Cajun food is my favorite cuisine. I am little concerned getting it in a theme park.
I was going to mobile order, but will do it from standby then! Thanks!!
I have many times and this is why I didn’t put them in my “must-do” foods…
Would love to! Sooooo many options and not enough time or space in my stomach!!
I’ve been here twice, and agree that it’s good but not great. I don’t really remember about the portion size.
I have been to Pym’s many times. They keep changing the menu though so not sure what I would get these days. But it is a cute restaurant on the inside.
I love Bengal BBQ, but just know that the skewers are really small now, so no worries about stuffing yourself.
In all my trips I have never eaten here. There are so many good food items in DCA that I am more interested in. You seem to be missing my favorite snack of all the San Fransokyo street corn at Cocino Cucamango.
I also don’t see the Cozy Cones (got to have a bread cone in Cars Land), or Flo’s (if nothing else get the steak fries and the oreo milkshake though the low and slow club is my go to there).
Also making sure you know that the lobster nachos are at the Lamplight Lounge Boardwalk dining which is walk up and outside on the main level (where as Lamplight Lounge ADRs are for the main restaurant downstairs, unfortunately they recently stopped serving the lobster nachos). You have such a specific time listed (5:50) it made me think you have an ADR.
I love the original beignets at Mint Julep.
And Carnation Cafe is under refurb from 4/28 until 5/10 so you couldn’t add that to your plans even if you wanted to.
We genuinely like it, but we also don’t have access to a whole lot of really great Southern cooking so it could just be we are inexperienced at it. But we do enjoy the shrimp and grits and feel like the flavor of the gumbo is good (but I would agree with not great). We usually split entrees at Tiana’s (and get a lot of snacks all around) so I don’t have a good gauge on how much one is. Average, I would guess.
This will be a small portion, so what we do is get a Maurice’s Twist, throw in a Mobile Order for a skewer from Bengals, and then combine them to make a sandwich. We saw it on a TikTok once and have done it every trip since bc we absolutely love it. And every time we’ve done it at least one person has stopped us at our table to ask where we got it.
It would kill two snack birds with one stone and you can free up the Maurice’s treat time to get a Cozy Cone or Corn Dog. Because you’re missing both of those that are some of our top savory and unique (or uniquely good) at DLR.
They probably are if you are used to authentic ones from New Orleans itself which it sounds like you may be. But of the beignets I have had from Disney, the Mint Julep Bar original flavor (NOT the seasonal like others have said) are my favorite. I’ve tried Disney beignets at 3 different venues on 2 different DCL ships and those have been ok, mostly more like a mediocre scone or doughnut. The DLR ones are definitely better being more like a very good, light doughnut coated in powdered sugar. I haven’t ever made it to POFQ to try them there, but one of these days!
The beef birria is so so good! We love it. A couple of treats is a good idea. They have some really good treats there, the raspberry macaron is a favorite (and very good and fresh). If you like coconut macaroons, the Matterhorn Macaroon is a very fun, DLR unique treat (it’s just very dense and coconutty so you have to like coconut macaroons to enjoy it).
Ooooh! Can’t wait to hear this comparison!
The Harbor Galley cookies are a lot gooier. I like the Jack-Jack’s cookies but mostly for the melty chocolate and giant size (we share 2-3 between 6 of us).
Our go-to’s in DCA are Corn Dog Castle Hot Links or Cozy Cones or just about anything in San FranSokyo (burria ramen from Lucky Fortune, street tacos and like Karen said, street corn from Cocina Cucamonga, or a bread bowl from Aunt Cass’s). So I would work in one of those over Poultry Palace. If it’s a matter of timing where you’ll be, it’ll be worth it to nab one of those other things. The chicken in DLR is decent though (if it’s the same as Plaza Inn), so I’m guessing it would be fine, but you can get good fried chicken other places, that’s not unique to DLR.
I’m all set! This is a “window” of time in the 5pm hour. I was going to keep on eye on the Walk-Up Wait List in the App to see when I need to sign up. Thanks!
This is why I kept DCA that night. Getting to stay open to 10pm makes getting in via a “wait list” more managable
Sorry! I don’t like street corn… I looked at the Cocino Cucamango menu. It looks “OK”. I like tacos, but not my favorite things…
I did debate Flo’s. I never even noticed the steak fries on the menu until you mentioned it!
So far most agree that I’m on track. There is debate about Tiana’s though… What QS food would you recommend in DL for a dinner as another option??
One of the options at DCA that you aren’t getting to fit in.
I’m only somewhat joking. We hop a lot to eat at DCA because we love a lot of it and there’s a lot of great things to do in DCA at night & then we hop back to DL for FWs and night rides after.
In DL there’s a lot less we absolutely love but we do love Bengal, and DLR corn dogs so getting either of those twice isn’t a bad thing for us. If you really wanted something in DL to replace Tiana’s, Hungry Bear and Harbor Galley usually have good options. And the Little Red Wagon has the DLR corn dogs too (only the regular, no option for spicy). Plaza Inn will have decent fried chicken and Golden Horseshoe will have chicken tenders (but it might they are Stagedoor and I’m misremembering). But I’d much rather hop to DCA for a Cozy Cone or Carne Asade fries from Award Weiners or anything from San FranSokyo.
Oh! Whatever Casey’s Corner is (I think Refreshment Corner in DL) might have some things. They had some bacon mac n cheese hot dog that my kids loved. And you could also go a 2nd time to Jolly Holiday for some more treats and another sandwich.
I didn’t know I did until I tried it there. The rest of the things they serve there are not on my list of favorites so I only recommend if you’re getting the street corn.
The best thing about Flo’s can be enjoying your food on the back patio watching RSR cars fly by. It really is one of my favorite places, but that might be because for years that is where the DLR liners meet up. Even if you don’t eat there, pop in to check out the decor and sit a minute on the back patio.
As for QS in DL, I actually prefer the QS in DCA most of the time. I think Tiana’s will give you a unique experience if nothing else. I do like the bread bowls with soup at the place next to POTC, and occasionally the chicken meal at the Plaza Inn. It is a large portion though, so solo not sure I would get it. My son would say the best QS dinner is a corn dog from the Little Red Wagon.
It was reported recently that Matterhorn would be going down on April 28th for refurbishment. I was looking at the schedule to see about IASW reopening. When checking I noticed that Matterhorn was NOT on the refurbishment schedule.
I went back to April 28th and checked every date. It looks like Matterhorn goes on refurbishment on May 6th now!!! I can ride it on arrival day!! I have plans to redo!!
Yay! I know you were so sad to lose the chance to try it. It is iconic and I love the sight of it and it makes me so happy to see it every time. But I know I like looking at it more than I like how I feel after riding it, so I ride only every few years.
I know it’s going to be rough. I saw a vlogger say to grab the seat in front of you so you aren’t hitting the back of your seat as hard!
I just want to ride it at least once in my life as it’s such an icon! I’m pretty happy, but still not going to consider it 100% happening until we get closer.
BTW - I want to take a moment to say “Thanks” to everyone for their advice and help! I know this is a hobby for a lot of us, so it’s fun. However, I wanted to express my gratitude!
Often I just want to “talk” to someone about the trip and I appreciate that y’all will participate!
For the first time in years, I’m insanely busy at work I’ve got to get back to it!
I haven’t had any of my “usual” time to play with my TP for hours each day at my office!
I think my TPs are pretty much ready, but will keep my eyes open for any last minute changes.
I’m not really “Stacking” or modifying LLMP as I don’t to be on my phone too much. I’m hoping that TP has predicted the LLMP availability and times correctly, so I can just look at my plan and get the next planned one and move on…
I walked 10+ miles carrying boxes yesterday! This trip is all I think about while I’m packing up this place! We have to be out of here next Thursday. Our new place isn’t ready yet!!??!! We were supposed to move in on May 1st. We got told, yesterday, that we won’t be moving in during May at all!
I go on my trip May 5 - 13th. I don’t know what is going to happen when I get back. I am trying to find time to talk to my boss, but he’s stressed & being
My job isn’t able to be done remotely… oh well! I’m not worried about it, but very curious!
Just saw this now. Hoping you’ll still be able to catch IASW! So excited for your trip and am secretly hoping you’ll be so enchanted under that Land spell that you’ll be returning again and soon.
Sadly, it returns the day after I am done at DLR. It was supposed to be open during my trip. It was last night that I was watching “Fresh Baked” and he mentioned it wasn’t ready. That’s what got me to look at the refurbishment calendar last night to discover the Matterhorn refurb wasn’t starting on April 28 - as previously scheduled
I wonder why no one is talking about the Matterhorn refurb “delay”??
I feel very confident that I checked & saw it on the official refurbishment calendar when vloggers said it was going down on April 28 and now it’s moved to May 6
Definitely! Thanks! I have very minor issues that will continue to improve but I’m basically better now!!
I was just thinking about how my legs aren’t too tired today. I checked my FitBit and I have over 20k steps / 8 miles as of now and a couple more hours to go!
I don’t think I would be ready ro tackle all the stairs at a water park yet. However, I feel much more confident that I can go to DLR without any serious issues.
