I don’t want this thread to go off-topic, but that movie was as fantastic day one as it is today. And what kid didn’t at least dream about skipping school, especially to have a day as great as he did!?
I never wanted to skip school.
Me either!
Aw, that’s such a good movie! I rewatched it with my kids not too long ago, and still think it’s hilarious!
Now….”Dude, Where’s My Car?” Oof.
Can’t believe I ever thought it was funny. Good reminder of how much we have evolved as a society.

I did once. Of course I got caught. The lecture I got and the summer long punishment (although it was a great summer spent with my Grandma during the days) was enough incentive to never want to do it again.
I always wanted to skip school
In my senior year figured out a fool proof way to not get caught - sign up to take all the three hour tests the school offered for things like scholarships. I didn’t intend to use them, so I just marked random circles on the answer sheets. Boring but better than sitting in class. Except English. That teacher didn’t mind if I slept. ![]()
Back when there was the DDP with 3 TS a day, 2 snacks, with desserts AND app, and alcohol, I thought it was very worth it for us. We usually only had two meals a day, and ate at signature restaurants. However, with only one TS, 1 QS, and 1 snack, it’s no longer worth it for our family. With all of our dietary restrictions, we rarely eat QS meals, so that’s something we probably couldn’t justify now.
Yes, as I recall. But it has been a very long time since we purchased the plan.
Same. At least 10 years (and probably more). We’ve gotten it twice since with a free dining and paid gratuity o.o.p.
The first year of the plan included tips, I think.
And before that was the Platinum plan which included, IIRC, 3TS/day (V&A excluded), all gratuities and all recreation actives (boat rentals, skiing, paragliding, horseback riding etc.)
This is what we had
We did fishing also but I don’t recall now if we paid separately
The one day that I ditched school, it was to write an English term paper. The next day my parents asked if I had joined the student walk out, which I honestly answered no.
We walked out ALL THE TIME. For everything. Middle School was at least once a week. We also would watch out the windows and if the high school across the street was walking out, we did too in solidarity.
ha ha, it’s not. Even in Paris…
I am thinking the euro is going to continue to rise against the dollar so thought about buying it in DLP for my June trip to prepay at today’s exchange rate and I still couldn’t justify it even if the exchange goes to $1.25 to 1Euro. And I doing some expensive meals. I think it’s only worth it if all your table service meals are the most expensive option.
In the high school I went to all the seniors “skipped” school on one of the last Fridays of the last semester. This Friday was even after finals, which is why I put quotes on skip. We certainly weren’t missing anything. And yet, all seniors that skipped got to go to detention, even with notes from parents on the Monday after skip day. I never heard of a senior complaining, tho.
A bunch of us went to the nearby State Park and, uncharacteristically, did not bring alcohol tho we did bring charcoal, hot dogs, buns, chips. We didn’t have sun screen - didn’t care to use zinc ointment. I got a serious sunburn, peeling twice over the weekend.
I asked my mother for a note on Monday and didn’t read it until I was in line at the office. She’d written that I was “absent on account of sunburn”. The office secretary looked at me and said, I should say so, and gave me an excused absence. ![]()
For at least a week my sister referred to me as “our favorite lobster”. ![]()
I was playing around with booking a family trip to WDW probably 10 or 15 years ago now. I planned to get the DDP because I knew that my mother would pitch a fit at the prices for some (most) of the restaurants. Being able to say “It’s all paid for Ma, just pick what you want,” would have cut off a lot of arguments. It might have cost a little extra to use the dining plan, but it would have been an investment in a more pleasant trip for all of us. I never actually booked the trip, and these days Mom is too frail for travel. I finally made my trip solo last fall, and I considered the DDP. But it was cheaper to pay a la carte, and I didn’t need to work around someone else, so I skipped it.
That’s a good reason to use it! Thanks for sharing.
@ryan1 I can handle Ferris Buehler better when I view it through the lens that Ferris is the villain ![]()
