You’ll get there next year.
DD and I watched a lot of Tyler’s video together. We consoled ourselves with knowing we get to see Epic Universe and HHN next year!
She says she wants to go with me in February. I was about to buy the ticket this morning, with her cancelled HHN flight, but I want her to 100% confirm.
I do enjoy the Honest Reviews done by WDWNT / Universal Parks News Today…
The last two years I’ve followed their advice and my food choices have been good!
Friends don’t let friends watch WDWNT.
I used to really hate WDWNT. They were right up there with Inside the Magic with click bait and rumors. Some time after COVID Tom seemed to “calm down” a bit.
Over the last two years they’ve done, IMHO, the best food reviews for MNSSHP, MVMCP and HHN.
I don’t watch WDWNT for any news or such, but the “honest food reviews” are the best.
They were doing more at UOR with Annie. She seems to have left and is doing her own work - Adventuring with Annie
It’s still new and a bit rough around the edges. However, she’s giving a sincere effort and doing good work. I would recommend checking out her new channel
Annie was fired and Tom has a lot of skeletons in his closet and accusations against him. So yeah. I do like Adventuring with Annie.
I suspected as much since it was so quietly done…
I can totally see that!
I miss when TP had vloggers! I don’t recall any food reviewers done by TP. However, Brian and Angela were great when it came to explaining the park logisitcs and vacation planning!
Anyway back to topic…
Thank you for the review! Time to study!
I really liked your synopsis of the houses and ratings!
Since I wasn’t able to go this year, I decided to switch my Universal Visa card design!
This is the Monsters house art from my first HHN visit. Still my all time favorite house!
oooh. neat!
Since my trip got cancelled I haven’t been keeping up with the HHN news as well As I typically would…
There have been a couple great back stories and information pieces about HHN from the Discover Universal podcast.
These stories really flush out the story and help make sense of these nightmares!
Duality of Fear ScareZone
Another Monsters of Latin America Episode
The Swamp of the Undead ScareZone
So, without those podcasts or an RIP guide to give the stories on Monstruous, Eternal Bloodlines, Triplets of Terror, and the scarezones (so basically all the original content) I think people aren’t getting a much out of them.
The stories in Monstruous and Bloodlines especially are just great stories, but they don’t come across very well in the houses if you don’t already know them.
My rankings, after having give through each house 2+ times now are:
- Insidious: the Further - hands down the most scares per foot maybe in all my HHNing since 2017.
- Ghostbusters - not a “scary” house, per se, but it’s really, really well done and the 2 absolute best scares I’ve had this year were in that house.
- Monstruous - I enjoyed the cryptid/mythology feel, there are some really good scares, and the queue is in a/c (in the soundstage behind OG Minions).
- Slaughter Sinema 2 - I loved the original, and this one is maybe even a bit better. Again, not really scary, but definitely some unique concepts, which I think is the idea (the original one spawned the Yeti houses), and there’s a mummy strip club movie that was hilarious
- A Quiet Place - they say that the more quiet you are the more they’ll come after you, but that wasn’t my experience… my first time through everyone around me was very quiet, my second time there was a woman laughing manically 2 people behind me the whole time. The first time was definitely scarier, and I think it’s because when you’re focused on not making an sounds, you hone in on every tiny noise and that puts you waaay on edge. They leaned heavy on animatronics, with varying degrees of success.
- The Museum - this one is one of the only originals (other than Slaughter Sinema) that didn’t need much backstory. Fun Easter egg: the infamous Bear from last year’s Yeti house is stuffed in a corner!
- Universal Monsters: Eternal Bloodlines - I always like the Monsters house and I love the all-women cast, but this gets knocked down a spot because the queue (shared with Goblins) is 100% the worst HHN has ever had. The story is good, if you know it.
- Goblin’s Feast - knowing the story didn’t really help here, because it was just boring. Lots of gore, not enough scares and missed opportunity to make a new HHN mascot. Add in the terrible queue and it’s one I wouldn’t more than 15 minutes for.
- (tie for worst) Major Sweets Candy Factory - even 3 guest activated triggers couldn’t save this one. Cotton candy scented chaos, and not in a good way. Zero scares (in 3 times through) and no sense that they were even trying to tell a story at all.
- (tied) Triplets of Terror - great concept, terrible execution. There’s no real.supernatural aspect to this one, and the scareactors mostly just loomed, without actually scaring. It was totally gore-based, which would have been fine if it had been done well. It’s not. There’s a dead dog, though if there wasn’t a barking soundtrack I wouldn’t have recognized it as a dog).
If you look at my Labor Day (and beyond) TR I’ve started to post some scare zone and food pics.
Cool! How did they scare you?
Oooh…this one sounds awesome.
The house is based on the new Frozen Empire movie, but it’s got a lot of callbacks to the older movies. One of the times I was really excited to see one of the characters from the first movie, and I was totally distracted by that but there was a scarer right after that who reached out a hand and got me. The second time was in a room that was from the new movie, and everyone in it was frozen except for one dude right at the door. He’s right out in the open, not hidden or anything, and it’s clear he’s not frozen. The first time I went through he was mainly just standing there, being dramatic. The next time he was kinda moving more, but still just a player in the scene. The third time I went into the room just expecting that kind of thing but instead he lunged right at me and I actually shrieked! The guy behind me was laughing so hard that the next scare got him almost just as good.
Ha, that’s brilliant! The actors really make a difference. I find that just a little motion and suspense goes a long way with me–too loud and over the top and I kind of shut down I think.
I went ahead & watched multiple runs of the houses. They do look pretty cool! I hate that I’m missing Insidious and Goblin’s Feast!
I really appreciate your rankings.
