Have you ever been stuck on or evacuated from a Disney ride?

As an aside… I love hearing the stories here! I was a roller coaster & thrill ride operator for 5 years in my early 20s and while not exactly routine, walkdowns were just another thing we were trained for so it’s interesting to me to see them from the other side!

Nothing too drastic, but one was funny in retrospect: First trip with kids a few years ago when they were DD7 and DS10.

I love the Haunted Mansion, didn’t realize that both were mildly freaked out. I had DS on my Doom Buggy, DD was with DW.

Just when you reach the point where the buggies turn around and you go backwards down the hill, I heard DD scream as it leaned back. Whoops, forgot to warn the kids!

Then: Stopped, for a long 5 minutes while leaning back. We laugh now, but later in the trip I said, “Hey, let’s take another HM ride!” and both kids kinda shook their heads at me. Luckily, 2nd trip they were back on board.

We were walked off the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh back in 2013. The doors on the honey pots stopped working as well, so a CM came around with a stool, so we could climb over our door and down onto the track.

Then they walked us all the way through the ride. I took several up close pictures of the characters and props, including a great one of the picture of Mr. Toad handing the deed to Owl. Shortly after that picture, though, the CM told us to stop taking photos. Apparently, there should be no proof of occasionally broken magic, even though I thought it was fun to see behind-the-magic a bit.

All told, I’m guessing it took 45 minutes or so from the ride stopping until we were out. And, we did receive anytime/any ride FastPasses for that day.

As we got up to about 45-50 MPH on Test Track our car came to a screeching halt. It was POURING rain (reports are it rained and inch and a half in an hour) and the computer didn’t like getting wet so it shut down. We sat in the car for about ten minutes before it moved very slowly back inside. Of course, all of the water that got filled in the car ran down to bottom when we took the banked turn. I was on the bottom and it was a lot of water.

Disney had a person responsible for determining when the rain would arrive and whether or not they could get all of the guests on the ride before the rain came. We met this person after we got off the ride. He apologized for sending us out in the rain and gave us free clothes (so we would be dry) and an anytime fast pass. He also did the same for the other seven families that were stuck in the rain.

A few years ago DH and DS (16) got stuck on Indiana Jones ride in Disneyland.

Not a big deal you would think but DS had a broken leg. They were evacuating people from the ride down steps but they would not let DS hop down these due to his leg. He had to wait for the Fire Brigade to rescue him. He was majorly embarrassed! He did say everyone was fantastic and they thought it was really funny he had come to California for the skate parks and broke his leg the week before we left… Skateboarding!

Me I was waiting outside and having a meltdown wondering what had happened to them!

??? What kind of clothes? From where?

These are great stories, folks! Thanks for sharing. Keep them coming!

@Adam…we got a coupon for free t-shirts and shorts from Mouse Gears as did the other families that got stuck on the ride. There were actually four families that had to get walked in off the ride in the driving rain. They were out there longer than we were.

It’s not something they publicize, but most parks will get you something different to wear if your clothing becomes unwearable for some reason other than just getting caught in the rain or you spilled on yourself… like if you get majorly pooped on by a bird, or if someone gets sick and it gets on you, or if the ride drips grease on you or tears your clothes. I had a pair of pants get caught on a WDW bus and rip so they gave me a credit to go and get a new pair, and since it was my only pair of pants to wear home to MI in December they even offered to transport me to the outlet mall in Orlando to get them. I ended up opting for a pair of Mickey sweats, but appreciated the consideration. I had actually just asked if they could have someone in the costume/wardrobe department mend them, but since we only had 4 days they said there wouldn’t be time.

My family got stuck on WDW Splash. We were walked out. CMs insisted that no one take photos.

Stuck for 15 minutes on Splash, about 5 feet from the peak of the ride where the boat goes over. I kept thinking it would be very difficult to get off the ride from there because we were leaning back so far in our seats at that angle. It started up again but we weren’t really prepared for the drop – afterwards, 8 year old ds was sure he was going to fly out of the boat because he wasn’t holding on (but I was holding on to him anyway…)

Went thru SM on Tomorrowland Transit Authority when the lights were on. Without the effects, it looked like a dinky county carnival roller coaster.

TestTrack . . . many times

If it wasn’t for the darkness and occasional visual effects, SM would be “that” old coaster sitting in a corner of a Six Flags park that never had a line because it was so slow, rough, and boring. Such a shame what it’s become. I rode it the first time in 1975, just a few months after it opened, before they slowed it down and reportedly modified the track (because it was “too scary”). I was 16 and no stranger to coasters - and it certainly got my attention. Since then, they’ve slowed it down 2 more times and installed brakes, simply because the 40 year old structure just can’t handle the forces any more. What it really needs is to be gutted and to have a brand new track installed - but I don’t see that happening any time soon…

Twice: one stuck at the top of the highest hill at Big Thunder Mountain Railway, had to call the fire dept. and we were walked down through the attraction…was quite interesting to see! Then got stuck on Radiator Springs Racers in Anaheim, after a very long wait in line, and just as it was going to “go fast” we stopped and that is where they take your photo. Must have taken my photo 50 times, then we were escorted out. (It is California’s version of Test Track.) Both times we got a Fastpass to come back anytime that day at any attraction. Also got stuck at Universal’s Reign of Kong after an hour wait in line, then time sitting on the stalled vehicle, then waiting for the scaffolding to let us out, then waiting another hour but it never came back that day. They didn’t offer us anything like a come-back-later pass which was inexcusable in my opinion. Disney is much more accommodating when the rides go bad.

We got stuck for about 15-20 minutes on Pirates of the Caribean in 2013…right at the start with the stormy weather. My son was 5 and was completely freaked out. Took awhile to get him back on that ride!

After reading all these stories I’m hoping we don’t get stuck on anything on our upcoming trip this August!!

OMG! That is terrible!!!

I got stuck on Splash Mountain indoors after the drop listening to Zip-a-Dee-Do-Dah for about 15 minutes due to some ducklings being escorted out of the water. We actually passed said ducklings earlier in the ride-it must be their hang out. Saw two CMs speed walking with a net. I just took selfies, texted my Dad and tried to zone out the song.

Don’t worry too much… I’ve been stuck on rides (more than just a brief 1-2 minutes of pause) at WDW three times that I can remember, but that’s over the course of 18 trips (probably around 100 total days in parks) and 20 years!

While many here may have a story, I think these things are so rare you don’t have to worry about it. Most people never have an evacuation situation… ever.
