I feel like it makes so much sense to change RD at MK to allow guests to line up at the ride - instead of holding us back until the “rope drops.” I loathe the herd of getting to 7DMT at RD, so the change is definitely appreciated. Does anyone know how it’s going?
I wasn’t aware this was a thing, but I gotta say it makes sense on paper!
TP just posted a story on their Instagram about it today.
I know how the MK CM’s feel about it
Which is???
Well how would you feel if you used to get to start your day quietly without having to answer questions and be “on” for at least the first hour. To now being on display while you open your ride and are distracted with guests asking if you are going to open soon and there is also loud music being played for “Cool Kids Summer”?
Oh and then the guest demanding LL’s when your ride has an issue and doesn’t open on time.
Some are not enjoying it.
Yes, that’s not good.
Thank you for the insight. People are annoying. LOL! When we visited the African American Museum recently, there are signs all over with instructions - no food, no touching, stay within the yellow lines. And what did I do? Got too close to a painting and stepped outside the line and it set off a silent alarm. The security guard came up to me and said “Ma’am” - motioning for me to step back inside the line. The look he gave let me know he was annoyed. I started laughing (from embarrassment) and apologized. Then he started laughing - probably relieved that I was aware of how annoying his job can get. I will make it a point to be extra nice to the CM’s at RD.
that is appreciated! My favorite MK CM will soon be in AK on MJT and won’t have to deal with it anymore
I was wondering if she had started the new gig.
I would also mention that in summer, rope drop seemed insanely early, which doesn’t help anyone’s patience.
We were there last weekend and rope dropped 7DMT on Sunday. I had not been keeping up with things and had been unaware of the change. I was thrilled to just walk back to the ride and line up. We ended up on the third train of the day and I really appreciated not having to struggle in the crowd at rope drop like before. Is this supposed to be a permanent change? I figured it was just because there were construction walls up at Cosmic Ray’s opposite Cheshire Cafe effectively creating a pinch point that could result in injury at traditional rope drop.
It’s like walking into your office/place of work and have people coming at you to fix things before you even get your coat off. There are few things that I bark at my people for but that’s one. Let me get through the door and settled and then let’s talk
I imagine the CMs feel a lot like that in this situation
It is nice it rewards the early birds and not the agressive runners and people who skip up to get closer!
Maggie had a girl scout troop sleep over one time at the national zoo. We got to walk an animal trail before the zoo opened. When we got to the river otters none of them were out, so I walked over to the side and found one. He was standing up, looked at me and hissed. I swear he was saying, “lady, the zoo is not open yet. I haven’t put my cute face on, so buzz off.” In my mind he was either drinking coffee or smoking a cigaret or both.
I do like this aspect and psychologically prefer being in a ride’s queue rather than being in a rope drop crowd with all the stress that entails.
But I sympathize with the CMs and hope that whether this is a temporary procedure or a permanent one that they can find ways to ease the burden on them.
But how would you react if after waiting in that line for 30 minutes you are told the ride isn’t opening?
The CM’s do safety checks during opening and sometimes don’t know the ride isn’t going to open until just before opening when they have to wait for maintenance.
Yeah that is a problem.
It seems like if they’re going to let people in the queue they would have to run the ride checks earlier. Which I’m sure is not feasible. So I’m guessing this procedure won’t last once the walls come down.
then it’s just back to the old way!
They were told it was temporary because of the construction, but DD said they are getting good feedback from guests and she won’t be surprised if it stays.
