I missed this. In that case I would use RD for something else and hit Hagrid’s later as @bebe80 suggests. But watch rain forecasts like a hawk.

During spring break, we got in line in the middle of the day and it was 20 min. It was not a long wait at all.
If you can do late-night touring, that is my recommendation for wand spell casting time. We had a lovely time 90 min before closing in Diagon Alley. My daughter and I got butter beer and sat at a table while my son did all the wand spells.

I agree that Hagrid’s is great at night. I think the first time should be during the day though. Particularly if someone is on the fence about whether or not it is too scary. Not having any idea what is coming next makes it scarier/more exciting. Which might be a good thing, or a bad thing.
Pre-teen is a good age to be selected for the ceremony.
