2nd morning I’ve caught our porch napper. I try to leave her/him in peace but I do wish I could pet her/him
We went for a private boat cruise of the Amalfi Coast yesterday with Exclusive Cruises on the smallest boat they offer and it was a lovely day. Three perfect swim stops, beautiful, historical coastline, we had a good lunch and ran into one of our chefs from the cooking class the day before. He’s close to the girls age so they shared an ice cream after and then we finished out boat tour. Abby and I got very sunburned despite reaapplying sunscreen three times. I’ve never been an every hour person but I should have been instead of every 2 hours. Let’s see if I can get one or two pics up but if not I’ll add them when I get back to LTE prolly in Naples. This area is sh!tty 5G and bad WiFi.
Hotels that include breakfast make a killing off me. I got guilt tripped when I asked for coffee after 10am closing breakfast time so I’ve been going to the corner store across the street when I don’t make 10am. I don’t really need food, just coffee but our corner stores don’t have homemade apricot tarts.
They also have a Nutella tart! We’ll have to compare for science later.
It seems to be working a bit better let me try Ravello again
It worked! Those are the stairs to Ravello and the Ravello beach (it’s not really on the beach but they give it one or two beaches just cuz)
The first garden is right at the top of the stairs (Cimbrone) where I had my brunch of really good lemon sorbetto and sparkling water which I deserved after the stairs.
Then I walked and shopped thru town on the way to Rufulo Gardens and the town square which was very diff but my preferred villa. I bought a plate and a dress and some shoes.
You know me i saw dogs sooo and cats.
And 200 year old dog houses soooo
Wore the new dress and shoes to dinner ofc
Let’s see if I can get cooking class
Also that’s some Amalfi and lunch in Amalfi of Capresw Salad which was prolly a mistake given how much food in the cooking class
Gorgeous photos! Love the new dress.
Such fabulous photos and what great fun with the cooking class and private cruise etc. It’s been two years since I’ve been there and have been wanting to go back so much! And, I love your new dress!!
ETA: I admire your restraint with petting the cat. I’m not sure If I could have stopped myself
Love all the pictures, looks like an amazing vacation!
Tried to do more boat trip photos last night but it wouldn’t let me. Mornings signal seems stronger so I’ll try again
Herculaneum (I mean the wood, jewels, trinkets, and tile work is 2000 years old. Sad what happened to them but they did at least die much faster than Pompeii people and look at what that mud kept from decomposing!)
Our guide told us how they found this wooden piggy bank in a child’s hands in the boat buildings waiting for a boat to escape.
They had running water and sewage under ground and invented consistent water pressure. They were a little better established in this way as it was a vacation city for the well to do. Three pipes of water coming in from an aqueduct they created from something like 80 miles away I think he said (spring from the mountain) with one set of pipes for the rich who had running water in their houses compared to the working class who used the public fountains. The pipes of course were made of lead as one does and the white stuff that formed on the outside of the pipes was sweet and they used it to sweeten their wines. Thinking this may have contributed to the 41 for men and 29 for women average life expectancy (which of course for women has to do with how dangerous child birth is). Women were 4.5 feet tall he said and men about my height at 5.3 feet tall. They didn’t really eat meat with most of their protein coming from legumes which is why I’m guessing they were so short.
He also told how the dry food (fast food) store waitresses were also prostitutes but this was a genuine profession and they paid taxes on their profits.
Decided to have a do nothing day and just enjoy the hotel views, water and my book. My mom is taking the bus to Ravello since the stairs weren’t her friend and the girls (when they wake up, they seem to need 12 hours of sleep. lol) are going to Amalfi again for shopping and more crowded beach time.
They made a friend.
Dinner in Atrani on rest day and Capri boat day
Ok it’s being crappy again. I’ll try the rest later.
The girls ate at that restaurant in Atrani 3 times and my mom once and me twice. They were part of the family by the time we left giving the owner goodbye hugs. We also made a navy nurse friend who was just stationed in Naples our last night. We highly recommend visiting the more southern and less touristy Amalfi coast towns of Atrani, Ravello, Minori and Maiori. Much cheaper prices and way less crowds with that more laid back vibe.
Our flight home was quite the opposite of the fun we had on the trip. The Naples airport has earned its place at number 1 of worst airport. Tiny tiny tiny for the number of people in there and not enough counter workers and no modern baggage check machines such as found in Paris. Very hard to walk thru cuz it’s so packed, the AC doesn’t work well and it’s hot and sticky. They have you line up an hour before boarding time and stand there, not moving while you’re sweating and packed. There aren’t enuf seats by half or more in the gate area and it’s a bus to your plane sitch. However, the employees are very nice which leads me to how effin rude both AA and airport workers were in Chicago. Also on my avoid list now. They all talk to you with attitude, make you check your bag size to get on plane when you have a zipped up (I mean the extender piece zipped in) on a standard carryon size with huge overhead bins that could fit bags bigger than that, slowing down the boarding process and they do it all with the personality of a crocodile. The airport employees yell at you to move when you’re trying to do things like wait for your teen daughter or out your passport away or get it out which I can’t do with hands full and a moving line. Just a very unpleasant place. We also couldn’t take off on time even tho the plane was loaded because we had to wait 45 min for someone to deliver water to the plane on already bumped out 40 min flight. The food in the airport is bad after just spending two weeks in Europe. And then when we got to Austin they had just parked all the planes for the night at the gates so we had to wait 30 min for them to move on via truck so we could deboard. As soon as we got to bag claim the AA baggage worker was yelling at us to check the office even tho our plane had literally just gated. We did and of course they weren’t there. A car seat got stuck on the belt and even tho a customer got it unstuck pretty quick we had to wait another 10 min for that same cranky employee to come over and get the belt moving again. My hubby got yelled at in passenger parking for popping open the trunk as we were walking to him so literally like 1 min. How do I get rich enough to fly private. It’s such a miserable experience after such a wonderful trip.
I got home about 2+am and was in bed a little after 2:30 with my 8am alarm set for work. I think by the time I fell asleep I did get 5 hours sleep.
