Getting to HS Rope Drop on Marathon Sunday

Oh my!

I’ve been planning this trip for months and never bothered to look up when Marathon weekend fell. Sure enough, our first park day, and our expected Hollywood Studios Rope drop morning, is Marathon Sunday.

We’ve participated in a couple of 1/2 marathons at Disney and as a runner, transportation is amazing. But I’ve never been on the other side. Does anyone have experience getting to rope drop while the races are in progress? We are staying at Ft Wilderness.

How much more time do I need that morning to make RD? We had planned on driving but I’m thinking its smarter to take the bus this day?

DHS is scheduled for an 8:30 EE, 9:00 main open. The marathon officially starts at 4:30 in the morning! So the runners will already be on the course by the time the park opens.

The course has DHS being near the end of the course.

The ramps from World Drive to Buena Vista Drive will be closed until 12:30 pm

What they will likely do is send you on a forced left turn onto Vista Blvd to send you down Bonnet Creek Parkway in front of Port Orleans, and then have you hook up to Buena Vista Drive that way, going west towards DHS. I don’t think it should take any longer, as the people driving to the races will already be there. Just the odd way around might add a couple of minutes.

Never ever EVER drive to a park on a race morning! Disney buses will have access to routes that the general public will not and will navigate any closures far more easily than you or any ride share will.
