I flew into Knoxville and it was a very easy drive to Pigeon Forge. rental car was a must for us, and at Knoxville airport it’s super convenient, you can walk right to the cars, no shuttle required. A week was enough for us, 2 days at Dollywood let us get our fill of all the coasters and shows. (We skipped the waterpark).

It’s been 25 years since I visited, but I vividly remember a mini-golf course that went down the mountain. You had to ride a train/trolley up, then got to play the whole way down. That was a highlight for my 14 year old self

We were just trying to get from Nashville to North Carolina right before Hurricane Florence hit (yes- we were driving into a hurricane) and Pigeon Forge was between us and our destination.
We had no idea what we were getting into.
My husband created a brand-new language created entirely of swear words. 
I’m sure Dolly was blushing, wherever she was.
