DH and DD are registered to do the Run Disney event in October. They plan to arrive in WDW on Wed, 10/21 and depart on Sun, 10/25. (4 nights). I encouraged them to wait on booking a room until the fall discounts are announced (which I figured would be sometime in July). I have seen the “Holiday Season” discounts that came out recently, which include dates in October. The problem is that for October, the discount rates are only for Sunday through Thursday, which I did not anticipate. The deals won’t work for them. Availability at all resorts for those dates is bleak. Their backup was going to be the Swan, which is now also booked. CBR is available at the rack rate. I am looking into renting DVC points but have never done that before. Also, I checked the DVC website for availability for those dates, and there are no exact matches, so I am guessing the rental companies will have the same problem? Since they will both be taking PTO, their dates are not really flexible.
I have 2 questions: 1) Should I expect any more fall discounts be released? and 2) Is it difficult to get your deposit back from the rental companies (looking at David’s) if there is not an exact match? (i.e., will they try to talk you into something else?)
Thanks for any help/suggestions you could give me. I feel badly that I gave them poor advice.
Race weekends are now very very popular, and they are almost always excluded from most discounts. The January discounts usually start the day after the Marathon.
DVC for those weekends also goes very quickly. Studios go at 11 months, 1 BRs don’t take much longer. Confirmed reservations will be very few and far between.
I see CBR on sale for 10/21-10/25 at $451/night (instead of $487 rack). Not much of a discount, but better than rack. And AKL at $667/night (instead if $736 rack).
Thank you! I have been watching the confirmed reservations on @JJT ’s search engine, but nothing has popped up yet that is a match. I have also been looking at the DVC website to check availability. Am I correct in assuming that what I am seeing there for availability would be the same inventory that the rental companies would have if I put down a deposit for a search? If so, I’m not sure it is worth doing. I can search availability myself.

With the passholder discount, I will probably book CBR for them at $427/night (rack rate $487). I think that is the best I can do. It’s just that we already had our annual family trip this year, and this Run Disney trip for the 2 of them was supposed to be done on the cheap! They are both in my F&F list. Do you think it is a problem if I book the room under my MDE, but I will not be there? I can book it under DH’s, but I don’t trust him to manage anything. (Example: “What is my login id and password?” )
I do not think it will be an issue, if the system lets you book the rate and their names. They may need to show an AP but I doubt it since it is in their profiles.
I think you can also book an AP rate for them through a TA?
