EPCOT Personalized TP and Genie+

Hey folks. I’m planning a trip to WDW in December and I have been struggling with personalized TPs and Genie+.

For example, I’m right now planning a day in EPCOT, which will start with breakfast at Akershus at 8:35. After that, the planning is telling me to do Frozen After Ever (35min wait) and Remy’s (59min wait).

My main doubt is: I have informed the plan that I will purchase Genie+ and that I’m able to do my first selection at 7am. Even so, the only Genie+ selection that the plan recommends me is for Journey into Imagination with Figment. Do you have any clues why doesn’t it recommend selections for the two attractions that would most benefit from it (Frozen and Remy’s)?

Sorry if this has been asked before, I didn’t find this in my search.

Definitely get a Lightning Lane for harder to get attractions.

You can always ask over on Touring Plan’s WDW Chat - no need to do a search first, as answers can change all of the time.

Force it to select them. Select the little +LL button:

and it’ll add that step to your plan and then try optimize again?

You’ll see this pop up when you select that button:

and say OK

Notice if the optimize still doesn’t try you can Edit that step and play around with what it’ll look like if you try to secure it at different times with Evaluate.

I did try that and Optimize ignored it . I’ll try to use Evaluate instead, thank you!

I have also tried to do this with a MK touring plan and for some reason it allocated so much time for the “Obtain LL” step that it made my previously fine plan not fit into my time anymore. It seems to me the software is not yet tailored for Genie+.

Another thing I just thought of is maybe if you play with this:

to say Minimize Waiting over Balance or Minimize Walking it’ll put them in there as well.

When are you going? I’ll be there Dec 21, 23 and 24 in Epcot (it’s my favorite park and first Festival of the Holidays!)

Yes, I think it’s been a struggle.

In the past when the TPs didn’t even the option at all I used BG1 to help me prioritize which I should get first and know what times they did additional drops. So, when I only had one day in Epcot I went for Test Track at 7am (at the time Remy was ILL). Then exactly at 12:47pm, even though Frozen was gone before I could get a 2nd LL in the morning, I was able to secure Frozen with a pretty immediate return time using BG1 and knowing about that upcoming drop time of additional LLs.

I kinda used TPs as a checklist instead of a hard plan. So when I’d get an LL for something I’d delete that step from the plan. And if I couldn’t ride anything with an LL I’d gotten up to that point I’d hit optimize on my remaining attractions and do what TPs told me in the meantime.

Good point. I’m generally between “Balanced” and “Minimize Walking”, because I’ll be with a 2.5yo. I’ll play with “Minimize Waiting” and see that it gives me.

I’ll be there in the start of December: trying to see the parks decorated for Christmas for the first time, but still spend Christmas itself at home

Oh, I remember those days! Enjoy 'em. (Mine are 16 and 19yo now). I tend to order things the way I want anyway. Like I’ll try optimize and then I’ll be like nope that’s weird and move things around and get it where it feels right to me and so I’m doing not quite so much walking around, especially in a park like Epcot. That might mean less attractions so I always have a list of like to haves I can remove to make the day feel more pleasant.

Yes, that’s probably what I’ll do as well: set up the plans, have my priorities for Genie+ and then adapt on the fly depending on what we get.

I have learned about BG1 last week by navigating the forum, will try it out in the next weeks to be ready for the trip.

Even if you don’t use it to actually book the LLs it can prioritize what you should get by different factors like what’s going to run out first, what has the next available time, etc. and the thing I like the most is the upcoming drop predictions. My family thought me a genius when I got Frozen when it had been gone for hours.

Yes! My last trip to WDW was just me and my wife, and it got really stressful at times because we were trying to fit everything. When we noticed we were having a huge fight at the most magical place at Earth, we knew something had to change.

I’m trying to police my alpha planner for this first trip with my kid :joy:

Thanks so much for the tips!

Welcome and BTW I added Remy to mine to play around and this is insane:

If I get it first thing at 7am it’s telling me my return time is 7:05pm! I doubt that’ll be the case but that’s probably why it’s not putting it on there with optimize.

Yes, it told me around 6:30PM and that really surprised me. I have decided to use the Late Arrival TP for Parents with Small Kids (to be conservative because of the Akershus breakfast) and I’ll adapt it on the fly depending on LL selections.

Assuming you are eligible for EE and that EE starts at 8:30, why not hit FEA first and be just a little late to your breakfast?

PS. Remy, TT and FEA is where your focus should be on LL selection and/or rope drop. If attractions are the priority, having breakfast during the first hour of park opening is counterproductive

If you want to keep your breaky plan, I’d rope drop FEA, be late to breaky, get the first available LL for Remy, then get a LL for TT or single rider TT (and get a LL for Spaceship Earth instead) and have an ILL for Guardians at around the time you ride TT and Spaceship Earth, and the rest of the park should be straight forward.

I am eligible and have considered this as well. My fear is that I read Disney’s official stance is to hold a reservation for only 15min. So if I’m there 8h30 and the ride takes me 10~15min (wait + ride time), I would technically need to go from France to Norway with a 2yo in 5~10min .

Am I being too conservative here?

Akershus Royal Banquet Hall and FEA are in Norway. I personally wouldn’t worry about the 15. Def don’t mention that you were on FEA. Just make something up.

No, I think unless you are at the very front of the line and have a stroller and can dash fast you will be more than 15 min late to breakfast. And while they generally sit you even if you are later than that you might have to wait. Also 2.5yo probably cannot ride TT so I would just aim for a Remy LL at 7am and then Frozen LL as soon as you are able and then go from there.
