Hi all! As life would have it, my solo trip keeps getting pushed further back. I canceled my November reservation, and I have a trip reserved end of January-first week of a February and one reserved end of March-first week of April. It “seems” like January-February should be less crowded, but already all of the All Stars, Pop, and POFQ are completely booked up. I know there are cheer competitions on the weekends. By comparison, the end of March through the first week of April all resorts are wide open even with the Spring surprise run the first full weekend of April. Pros/cons going during either timeframe? Thanks!
Edit to add: I’ve never been to either FOA or Flower and Garden, so either would be new to me.
So I don’t know if it has sold out by now, but early after registration Spring Surprise did not sell out. So I don’t think you’d see an impact from that based on low registration.
I’m surprised to hear end of Jan is “sold out” at the resorts mentioned. Did you kind of play with your dates (more nights, fewer nights) to see if you could get anything that way? Are you looking using a discount filter or just rack rate?
I would 100% recommend end of Jan over end of March all around if you can secure a room.
I did play around with the dates for the All Stars, but I think because of the dance and cheer competitions on the weekends those are just absolutely booked. I have a reservation at Movies which, given the amount of kids that will be there, I was trying to move to POFQ. I’ll have to see what else I can find by shifting dates forward or backward a little. It would make more sense for me to go schedule wise at the end of March-early April, and I assume the bulk of Spring Break is typically mid-March, so I’ll have to see. Regardless, any time is a good time to be at Disney.
I haven’t been to Festival of the Arts which I think is FArts? @OBNurseNH ?
I’ve been twice to Flower and Garden and it’s lovely. First time was mid April 2012 and we melted. So warm. Second time was 3rd week of May 2023 and it was warm () the first day and then the last couple of days.
For many WDW trips we went the week after Thanksgiving but that started getting crowded so we switched to end of January/beginning of February. Lovely weather. That’s when I’d go.
I’d keep hunting rooms. One night at a time if necessary.
I have a reservation for ASMovies that last week of January/1st week of February. I just know it’s going to be overrun with Cheerleaders. I’ve always wanted to stay at French Quarter which is also booked. Hmmm….since it’s a solo trip, maybe it’s time to investigate a split stay….?
Look for any room any day of your dates at French Quarter.
Once you get one, you keep stalking.
You might not even get to do a split stay
Keep the Movies just in case. Once we had a week at Coronado and then a week opened up at Saratoga - slightly different dates but nearly free so we stayed at Saratoga.
We needed a night at the end after Saratoga, for which we used the last night of the original CS reservation.
The last weekend of January, Disney World is hosting a national dance competition, and the first weekend of February they are hosting a national cheer competition.
I’ve gone during that time the last few years, and it was weirdly busy every time, to the point that I’ve decided that’s just not a less busy week. Also, the weather was absolute crap this year, and it was still busy.
It was cold… just above freezing when we went to the bus the day we RDed AK, and it never went higher than like 43° all day. One day it was sunny and in the 60s, so that was nice, but the other days were overcast.
