Does Your Husband Carry a Backpack?

Five solo trips in and I finally convinced my husband to tag along next trip. We have been to Disney only once together. It dawned on me - sometimes when we are out in day to day life, he asks to put his phone or other items in my purse …
For our Disney trip I will not have extra room in my (pin) bag for his stuff.
(Phone, water, etc.) He is refusing a backpack “I don’t like backpacks.”
Does your husband carry a backpack? Any advice? The sling backpacks seem reasonable as far as comfort. Showed him those and he is still meh.

It really doesnt matter if anyone else’s husband likes backpacks. If yours doesnt, he doesnt.

He will have to find a way to manage his things, however.

I don’t generally carry a purse, I’m a minimalist and a big believer in pockets. But when DH and I do WDW (or other daytrips), we use a lightweight smallish/medium backpack. It has enough room for what little we do carry. I usually wear it to start, but we do take turns.

My wife and I took a trip just the two of us and we had one backpack that we both took turns carrying. We really didn’t need that much stuff just layers/rain gear and drinks.

For sure. That was my initial thought. But as wives do to help - I don’t want him to suffer.

Can he wear cargo shorts?

He mentioned something he purchased that hooks to his leg. (Motorcycle gear)
I reminded him he will be getting on/off rides. Leg attachment seems laborious.
@LTinNC82 - cargo shorts for sure. Except his water bottle. He will for sure ask to put that in my bag.I know his habits better than he knows his habits.

Once they’re out of a stroller everyone in my groups carries their own stuff, as they’re able, in a fanny pack or backpack.

If the water is too heavy then I guess they need to drink it. If their pins are a bother then they can wear fewer pins or not bring them. If they don’t like dealing with their own electronics then then can leave them in the hotel.

Yes, he carries a backpack. Or he gets by with cargo shorts/pants. If the kids are along, the default is that he brings a bag too, although lately we only need one (mine) and he carries his own stuff. Often he’ll take the bag during the day as well, so we’re still sharing the burden.

I tolerate being a packhorse for my kids (less of a need as they get older and both need to bring less stuff and they help carry too). I don’t do it for adults and it’s weirdly annoying to me that this is a thing (and it is definitely a thing, you aren’t alone). I don’t know why I care? …maybe because women get hosed by having pants with insufficient pockets, have to carry a bag/purse and now have to also haul the personal belongings of the men in their life?

Might I suggest a collapsible bottle he can put on a pocket? We used the Hydaway bottles on this trip and they worked very well.

Water bottles are heavy and bulky - that’s not a minor ask!

Maybe he can just get one of those water bottle carry straps then and deal with that. Or they make those key ring clip on bottle holders too.

The crossbody water bottle hoster thingies often have a pocket for your phone too!

Yes. My first thought. Until it seemed mean. I need thicker skin with him. He is literally the child I never had. Not that he acts like a child, I"m just a total Momma bear when it comes to him.

Yes! Totally how I was raised. And he was, too. I need to toughen up.

This is the way.
This is how we do it.

You can do it! You’re Mama Bear, not Mama Pack Mule!

But seriously, the collapsible water bottles were a game-changer for us. Not only are they easy to tote around, they’re not insulated which meant we usually got water and drank it right then, instead of just sipping here and there. I think we were much better hydrated for it.

Everyone in our family, including our 7 and 14 year old, carry small bags/backpacks when we go out and are responsible for their personal items. If you don’t mind carrying his things, no biggie, but if it bothers you, then tell him he needs a plan for carrying his own stuff.

I used to carry a backpack and I ended up carrying everyone’s stuff because it fit. Then I discovered my Vera Bradly hipster carries everything I need including my water bottle. After that I told everyone else they were on their own.

The one caveat is that I carry a 24oz Takeya water bottle that we constantly refill. On my own I would carry an 18oz.

I carry a backpack each day at the parks at WDW. I can’t imagine going without it.

I had to laugh when I read the title.

Not in this universe!

But he is at least minimalist. He insists that his shirts have two chest pockets. And he’s a fan of cargo shorts.

He carries his own stuff - phone, glasses, pen, wallet, water.

We buy water in the 8 oz small bottles. One fits in most of my pockets. When it’s empty I refill it. I only carry a small crossbody bag with cards, cash, charger, cords, tiny bottle of electrolytes and a small snack. Phone is usually in one hand and my cane is in the other.
