We live in the Bay Area near Great America, but we routinely go up to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. Over the last 20 years or so, I’ve been to almost every “major” park in the US. I’ve been to every Six Flags multiple times and all the Cedar Fair parks, save Valleyfair. Also all the Herschend, Kennywood, Busch/Sea World, Disney, and Universal parks. I’m also missing Elitch Gardens and Lagoon.
Then I had kids and it’s 90% Disney now…
And then your kids grow up. My wife and I have started talking about our “future trips”, and they are including places that don’t even have rides. Crazy, I know. But then, I’m hitting 47 this year. (Although, I expect we’ll have vacations like this:
“Where do you want to go next year?”
“I don’t know…let’s do out east, see the Washington Monument and stuff?”
“Sounds great…we can stop by on our way to Disney.”

I realize this is a pretty old thread, but fun to hear about local parks! Especially as “local” tourism seems to be the name of the game right now. Nice to see some New England friends. I grew up going to Canobie and am also old enough to remember when Six Flags was called Riverside! (But I think I was a very, very small child at that time. :-p)
Am shocked that no one has mentioned Storyland! My absolute fave and even my mom has pictures from there when she was a kid. We know a bunch of locals who used to work there at now defunct attractions and that’s also kind of cool. We are season pass holders headed there next week! (I think it’s owned by the same family as Lake Compounce mentioned very early on in the thread.)
Also - just off Cape Cod there is Edaville Railroad which is an absolutely adorable park with an extremely accurate Thomas the Train replica and an entire Thomasland that is the best themed park I’ve ever been to outside of WDW. The Cranky the Crane drop ride is just my speed! I’m so glad we went to their Winter Wonderland this past winter because they decided not to open this summer nor do I think Baker would have let them anyway.

We have a handful of parks within an hour or so. All of them stayed closed this year. I hope they don’t stay shuttered permanently now.
Please tell me I’m not the only one who read this and immediately envisioned a park with star fighters, General Grievous and epic lightsaber battles.

Same and same. I would have been about 9 or 10 when I went to it as Riverside 
Storyland! Where fantasy lives! Love that place. Santa’s Village is okay too, but more remote and very specifically themed.
I never did get to Edaville!

No. I probably know less HP than SW.
Anything I know about either has mainly been gained by osmosis. Though I did see the original 3 SW films as a kid.
Okay. No problem. But in hindsight, it DOES seem like the point in HP 1 with Hermione!
