Generally we are not a DS family. Been twice in total during our past 6 WDW trips. I understand why others enjoy it and we had good meals both times, but between the crowds, waits (seated 30 mins after our res time last visit) and travel time to and from, it is not particularly appealing to us.
If DW wanted some alone time at the pool, etc I’d be fine taking the kids to one of the parks on my own. I will offer that up as an option when I discuss departure times with her. I’m not sure if that would lessen her concerns of arriving home in the evening but it is worthy of discussion.
I can understand this. We aren’t really either.
I don’t like the time it takes to get there but we have never regretted making the effort when we do. Raglan Road was a highlight of our trip this past summer, and we only had four park days. It was a good option for arrival day. Sometimes on a longer trip we will go on our “resort” day or for a date. Homecomin’ and Boathouse are the other restaurants we love.
Ok, so discussed with DW. Here is what we negotiated …
(1) Per DWs preference we will take an early afternoon departure flight and will not visit the parks on departure day.
(2) To give us more park time (my preference) during our relatively short 4 day trip, instead of arriving mid-afternoon on arrival day and only having a few hours at the parks on arrival day, we will fly to Orlando the night before our check-in day at BLT and spend the first night at All Star Sports. That way we will have a full first day at the parks instead of only a few hours. DD9 and DS7 do well with staying up late (especially at WDW) so arriving late night will work ok for their schedules. Note: We don’t want to pay BLT prices for a late night arrival on the extra night so that is why we are booking All Star Sports for the 1 night.
(3) We will get tix for MVMCP for our last night at WDW so will be up late that last night, sleep in and then head to the airport.
Bonus: DS is a huge sportsfan and will enjoy seeing All Star Sports.
Sounds like a nice compromise!
