Yay Cane’s! It is not as good carry out due to the fries getting limp, but the rest is still good.
Is DS growing a mustache or is that a trick of the light?

We had Canes last night too! I love them for fast food chicken.
Love hearing this (and hope they extend it through the end of the year so I can see it). Where did you wind up watching it from?
I’m not a sportsball person but I happen to know that “calling an audible” is football, not golf.
He was letting everything grow up to trip, so here he’s gone down to the stache trying it out.
Is funny, DW and I just noticed several guys we saw on TV with thin staches so think it might be the new thing. Looks good on him, especially in Jimmy Buffett vacation wear.
My brother and I grow BAMs* and he’s hoping his comes in like that eventually, he said.

Oh, and exactly what I said about the fries last night. Pro Tip for this Cane’s at least: drive through line was insane, mobile order was a breeze, 5 minute pick up in and out. Just check your ice before you leave, they didn’t give us any!
Oddly I get an unsweet tea with no ice. And they often give me ice. I have to check every time.
So recap on Grand Cypress experience so far as I sit in the lobby drinking a coffee.
First I really like it here and the people are all very nice. Clean rooms, clean everything. Suites at least are right on the edge of needing a refresh of sofas, especially the bed portion which are all v-shaped and way too thin. In Coral Gables Hyatt Regency the pull out sofa mattress was about 5 inches thick, almost as good as a regular bed.
But annoyances are adding up with room:
Checked in, assigned room, walk away. Given complimentary glasses of champagne, yay! Newish seeming employee runs up to us in lobby as we’re finishing and hands is a letter about “maintenance” happening between 11-6. Tells us it is only that day, when we specifically ask about the next day.
Get to room, eventually find used rank diaper left under sink by wonderful previous humans. Let the desk know it is in hallway in person, several hours later, still there.
Day 2: 9:30am DRILLING AND BANGING
Complain at desk, offer to move rooms given, some points, but not even a full day. We decided to stay as I said above, hoping 920am was a fluke.
Day 3: 8:20am DRILLING AND BANGING.
DW calls down, person says they are sorry, will “speak to engineering”
DS21 on his own walks down to complain (we suspect they think he is not related to us now), guy at desk tells him the letter SHOULD HAVE SAID 9AM.
HOW COMPLETELY BULLSHIT.
Extra credit:
Cleaning person does a fine job, but literally takes 2.5 hours every day to clean our suite, which is probably 85% spotless with my group already. I like clean, but takes out the whole middle of the day when we’re usually looking for lunch time costume changes to get food.
Room is across from an actual room sized room that contains cleaning supplies etc, so lots of traffic and door noise. They put that near a VIP Suite?
Again everyone is nice, but yeesh.
This is the same place you stayed last year, right?
Yep!
Hopefully they get the construction done, and it’s back up to last year’s standard. Seemed like a better report then!
The mascot parrot Merlot at Grand Cypress decides to tell once in awhile.
In person it is SO LOUD and weirdly sounds SO HUMAN yelling. Cracks us up.
Is he out all the time?! I couldn’t see him but I just know it would catch me off guard every single time, lol
A lot of the day, but not all the time. Really makes you jump!
Sitting at pool, hoo boy hot. #hbh
Remembered perhaps best line from golfing yesterday, although not golfing related:
We had a solo player paired up with us: a teenage girl who had a beautiful, natural swing. Her Mom rode along in cart not playing, very nice people.
One hole had a cart path about 220 yards out that curved right out of sight, DS’s drive followed it and the only thing we heard was the click of the ball on the path.
When we pulled up we spread out to see if he got lucky and it didn’t end up in the foliage next to the Villas.
As we’re looking along the edge, the Mom comes up to me and says “Are you from up North? Because you both have really WHITE legs and I wanted you to know there are dangerous snakes around here!”
Appreciated the reminder and she sure is right about our Irish Northern legs!
Hey mom, snakes like tanned skin too
I think she meant from our legs she deduced we were not from around here and might not realize there were snakes.
I can’t see Merlot, but I’m guessing he’s a macaw from his voice. I have a yellow-naped Amazon (medium-sized green parrots originated in Central America), and he shrieks in the morning, in the evening, and whenever he feels like having a good yell. From outside the house, it sounds very much like a woman screaming “rape, rape, rape!” I’ve had him for about 27-28 years, and no one has burst into the house to rescue the victim. And I’m kind of surprised about that.
I’m so enjoying your trip report!!!
Current Alert Status:
Sitting in WL parking lot waiting out storm. Plan, so far, anyway:
Tune in next time to see how we fare. (As I finished that sentence, multiple lightning strikes, heavier rain.)
I’m very happy right now that DS and I threaded the needle: Tuesday & Thursday at this time super stormy, yesterday for our tee time: just enough rain before to cool things down. Had a lightning warning on cart at 8th hole, but made it through.
Has @Enchantedbythemouse gotten to him?
