Thanks for explaining. I was thinking it showed up as points like chase sapphire did. So how do you book with the certificates, online? And I could transfer Chase reward points if needed an extra 5k points to book a 55k point night? Looks like all nights but 1 I want are below 50k, but who knows if they will go up or down by the time I reach the $3k spend and get the certificates! That’s always the gamble I suppose.
Marriott certificates are easy to use online for booking in their portal (unlike Hilton where you have to call, ugh.)
Both Chase and Amex are Marriott transfer partners - above in thread today I mentioned to Ryan you can watch for transfer bonuses to boost the points value since transferring to Marriott isn’t the best mathematical deal. There’s a link back there to a Frequent Miler page that shows past bonuses.
You are right wondering about point value changes, Marriott’s move all over the place sometimes. But, you just have to keep watching and they usually come back around.
Thanks! Yes, I knew that transferring from Chase to Marriott isn’t the best use of points transfer but figured if I just need a little for one night might be worth it!
There is a no lifetime language offer for delta business credit cards i found on a post at Doctor of credit. It was in the comments what worked for me. If interested, let me know and I’ll help you find it. I just got my 3rd in 18 months
So… interesting that the annual fees on the business cards are significantly less than the personal cards. I wouldn’t be opposed to have a gold business card at the $150 annual fee…but I don’t have a business, so out of luck there.
Reminder that any kind of side hustle qualifies you for a business.
Sell something on ebay? You have a qualifying business. Sell on Facebook marketplace? Ditto. Do something on the side for someone? Qualify.
I sign up for business cards with my name as business name and use my SSN to sign up. You don’t need anything more than that to apply.
Yeah. I mean I could put my writing (which earns me like $2/year at the moment, but in the past has earned me quite a bit)…but in the application it wants a gross annual revenue, and it must be a minimum of $1000 which just isn’t the case at the moment. (Once I retire, I plan to return to my writing as a means to earn income again.)
Other than that no side hustle or anything.
Revenue from intention to earn counts too, even if you just think you might start back writing again.
Like JJT says, it’s intention. So you could definitely intend to earn $1k this year.
They want you to use their card, they don’t really care about your business ![]()
We’ll look at that! It worked. Thanks, guys. Never would have even considered doing it this way!
The question has come up a few times:
Now that Southwest has seat selection, what happens to seats you’ve already selected when rebooking flights? Do they become immediately available or does it take time?
TL;DR: On my one test: they appear back in inventory immediately.
Proof of Concept
10:53AM - searched and selected a flight in February.
| 10:55AM: Ran through booking process to seat selection. Available: |
|
| 10:56AM: Seat Selected: |
|
| 10:58AM: In a different browser, searched same flight and started booking from DW’s account. Seats Available: |
|
| 10:59AM: Back on my account, cancelled my flight. 11:00AM Checked same flight again: Seat already back in inventory! |
Extra Credit:
Thing I find curious: Why is the left side aisle seat I chose in the Exit row $24-$30 cheaper than the seats on the other side? When I checked another random day, those Exit row seat costs were all very similar. Weird.
Wait: Now that I look at those screen captures again - on my account they allowed me to pick that Exit row seat on the left for free, but wanted to charge me for the ones on the right. On the second look, all of the Exit row seats were $$$.
Guess on that first flight they incorrectly marked that seat as “Preferred” instead of “Extra Leg Room”? Funny glitch.
It is 2 different plane models. I wonder if the 3 seat exit row behind the 2 seat exit row doesn’t have as much leg room for the first 2 seats. That or maybe it’s dynamic pricing, single seat left so they mark it down?
Just a guess but Ive seen it too when searching for flights- the exit row priced at preferred.
New Hilton promotion for anyone staying at one in the next few months… it ain’t much in the scheme of Hilton points, but its something.
Have to register for it beforehand. Image below links to the landing page for the offer:
