Coronavirus Outbreak: Part 2

The paper reported 2 fully vaccinated Orange County residents (Orlando) catching the Delta variant. One vaccinated with Pfizer and the other with Moderna. I knew I was going to continue wearing a mask indoors to avoid other crud, I’ve had 2x Pfizer but now I believe I just need to continue to protect myself and my family from covid still :face_with_raised_eyebrow::zipper_mouth_face: …. More dread… more 2020 ‍:dizzy:

I really understand and agree with your point. The issue is trying to get it through the heads of 80+ year olds. Never before have people tried to force something on them and make them feel bad if they don’t comply. To them, any spread that might happen from them to another person is not intentional, and has always been this way their whole life. So I guess we just need to respect that mindset. :man_shrugging:

Read about what is happening in Israel. From what I read, they are finding a significant percentage of their new cases are Delta variant in fully vaccinated people … but the good news is that it appears that fully vaccinated people are almost all experiencing zero or mild symptoms.

I don’t really see their age as an excuse. My 91 year old grandfather and 80some year old grandmother got their vaccines without an issue and understood that it was to protect themselves and others.

No one is forcing anyone to comply with a vaccine. It is their decision to make. But it doesn’t mean others have to agree or make them feel good about their decision. (I wouldn’t intentionally disrespect or berate them for their decision either.)

Thank you for the comforting news. I’ll check it out.

More details about Delta that I happened upon…

This was from the weekly Baylor College of Medicine briefing sourced from UK data:

So yes, great news that those vaccinated are themselves still quite well protected against even symptomatic illness.

Scott Gotlieb, FDA Commissioner, tweeted this out…

Again, good news for the vaccinated, but not great news on their potential to be carriers and also not great news on the transmissibility among unvaccinated children (i.e., whatever herd immunity Israel though it might have with the % of adults vaccinated might not be enough to protect the unvaccinated, which is the whole premise of herd immunity).

And for everyone’s 2020.1 oddity bingo cards, I really hope this isn’t the new “thing”… :scream:

Current situation here in the UK. Andrew Marr, the interviewer, actually caught covid himself after being fully vaccinated although it’s not mentioned in the article.

Dear God! That made my gag reflex kick in. Please don’t let that become a thing!

I keep really hoping the Israeli numbers are just a statistical blip, but the UK numbers would seem to indicate otherwise… :disappointed:

I was trying to look away from the graph that @sanstitre_has_left_the_building shared in his cruise thread :see_no_evil:

Back in March 2020 they were airing footage from COVID hospital wards in Italy and it scared the crap out of me. It was horrifying, nightmarish and dystopian.

Of course there are other ways to die that we tend to blot from our thoughts.
