Cane Chairs

I was reading through https://disneyworld-web.app.link/e/WDW_GWD_Planning_Guide last night and discovered that they do allow cane chairs in the park.

This is a game changer for DD24. We were going to have her bring a walker. But those are hard to deal with. I thought they were forbidden as a fold up chair, but they are not.

I’ve seen a guest with one at DLR.

I know you have because I searched for the thread we were talking about this fairly recently and came across you posting a picture of it.

ETA: never found the post I was looking for, though.

I was recently looking into this for DH. It looks like it is a fairly new policy change and that some people report having issues at security. I would be prepared to show them the updated info.

Yes, ma’am. Probably a good idea.

After I told DD24 about that, she decided she wanted to stick with the walker because it’s harder to lose, and she can carry things on it. Sounds reasonable to me.

I found that those cane chairs are really heavy to carry around. Walkers are just so much easier since they just roll around. I used to use a scooter at Disney, but they are such a pain to put into the car.

They can be a negative for the mobility that they provide vs the hassle they can be in the parks. The exception would be if your purpose is the concert venue type events or staking our for a parade. But carrying them all day didn’t seem right for us. We did see a guy with a disc like, pop out device in Monsters that was super cool. If you can image the travel cups you used to get in the ready made travel kits- the ones to gargle and spit. It was this telescopic concept but in a chair. I know him and his kid was appreciative.

Most walkers can also double as a seat for when the person is not moving. Just don’t try to use a walker as a wheelchair, it ends really badly!

I saw one that doubled as a wheelchair, but it needed someone to push it. It even had a foot rest.

Yes, they do exist. They seem like a neat idea. It’s just a little awkward to push a wheelchair without a person in it (i.e., using it as a walker) for extended periods, as the back balance does funny things. Walkers are more front balanced to aid with it being used without a person

Yes, I definitely thought it was awkward. We didn’t get that one. DH and I are both wheelchair users, so we wouldn’t be able to push a walker/wheelchair if she needed it. Hopefully she’ll be fine if she rests a lot. If it gets very bad for her, we can rent her an ECV at the park. I don’t think it will come to it.
