Day 4: Morning of Conference Sessions, a Wild Lunch, a Nap, and a Monorail-ish Tour
Friday morning came even more quickly than Thursday morning, but with a later start at the conference, we had time to fuel up proper-like
I had a lovely conversation with the couple at the next table over, while I waited for my friends to arrive. It’s so hard sometimes to not jump into the conversation - but these folks were into it. They were talking about their plans and they had a dining package for “that thing, you know at night, with the water, and Mickey. You know.. the thing!” I leaned over and whispered “Fantasmic!”
We chatted for a while and I was able to answer a few other questions for them. It’s just so easy to talk to people at WDW!
After breakfast we headed over to the conference center and dragged ourselves into the sessions. Honestly, this might have been the best of the best. I found myself moved to tears, and enraged, and inspired to act after hearing how the profession of Nursing was pushed into the background in the 1930s after it had become the single most powerful way for women to achieve major progress toward rights and freedoms and equality. We have been oppressed, and our professional services are hidden in a room charge. But enough about that. It was a very good ending to the conference!
We took some time to take a few photos so that we had actual proof that we attended
and then it was time for a WILD lunch!
I loved showing off all of my favorite spaces to my friends, and their reaction to the Jambo House lobby was priceless! I toured them around there a bit while we waited for it to get closer to the time of our lunch reservation. I showed them the artwork, we visited the gift shop, and we checked out the savanna. There weren’t too many animals out there, but they got the jist.
The real show was over at Kidani today! While the lobby is not as impressive, the animal activity was WOW! I loved watching them take it all in
Before long our table was ready. The CM at the reception desk asked if we wanted our photo under the sign! I had never, in all of my times visiting, been offered that before! Of course we said “YES!”
We sat down at a table not right up on the windows but very close. I was careful at each dining location we visited all week to be the one to take the chair with my back to the action
My friends noticed and tried to encourage me to take a different seat. But I’ve seen it all, and will see it again soon, so I declined in favor of them having the better views.
I oriented them to the menu by saying, “and the bread service is non-negotiable!” :rofl Our server got a kick out of that - and my friends agreed that it was outstanding!
DFM got the braised beef
I got the tandoori chicken sandwich (it says it comes on naan but – that was a roll, however you slice it). Very good though!
DFS got the burger, and DFP got the salad with shrimp. Everyone loved their meals
OK funny side story time:
On Tuesday night DFM used the restroom at Cali Grill and returned to the table excited to tell us “and there was a sink that was meant for a person of small stature” (ok she said dwarf - which she said was fitting for WDW). I said, “DFM — is that perhaps meant for handicap access?? You NURSE!”
We all died laughing and agreed that it must be that. Although, honestly, I think it’s even low for that – it might actually be intended for children!
Fast forward to Friday. This was not the first time she did this all week, but DFM took this photo to say, “See?!”
Maybe you had to be there
Our server was careful to celebrate DFMs cancer victories with a special dessert
And then we rolled ourselves out of the restaurant and back to POFQ. With full bellies and short on sleep we were more than ready for naps
I had to get up early from my nap to take a (very frustrating - maddening even!) work meeting. After which I needed some peace and quiet. So naturally I did this:
and then did this
while the wash ran. I think I mentioned it elsewhere but I want to say again here that this spa set up at this resort is perfection. The spa is kind of hidden behind some hedges and under a tree – if you’re not looking for it you would never know it was there, honestly. And this is what makes it so great! First, it’s almost never got anyone in it. But most importantly, the KIDS don’t see it — so they aren’t in it! And it’s so separated from the main pool that the parents aren’t inclined to let the kids hop in while they stay in their loungers; they would have to go with and who wants that?? I think all of the hot tubs should be arranged this way at all of the resorts!
On my way back to my room to get ready while the laundry dried I saw a carriage passing by
I had reserved a ride for me and my friends, but when I figured out their pace I knew it was going to be more work than it would be worth to squeeze it in. So I canceled. One of these days I’m going go get to do that!!
We all got ourselves together and headed on over to the TTC to kick off our monorail tour. I thought this was a pretty neat pic of us, caught while waiting for the tram
Gosh we are cute!
Stop 1:
We got in line as soon as we arrived and waited only maybe 15-20 mins. I scooted downstairs to try to get us on the list for Trader Sams but no dice. I kept trying while we sat drinking and munching and finally got a spot… for an estimated 110 minute wait
Our server at Tambu was handling that entire room by himself. He was super high energy - perhaps even a little over the top! - but he took great care of us. My friends had the view of the… scaffolding out the window. Sure you could see the castle a bit, but the scaffolding was a bummer.
The drinks and eats were fantastic, though. I meant to send a noodz pic to @Enchantedbythemouse
We tooled around in the Poly but it was HOPPIN in that lobby, so we eventually decided to move on toward our next destination
Stop 2:
My friends were stunned by the fanciness of this hotel! It is a stunner, you’ve got to admit! We checked out the hidden characters in the tilework by the monorail, popped into Basin to see if they had anything different from the DS location (they didn’t), and headed for our next lounge
I’d ask you to match the drink to the friend, but you don’t know them so it would be kinda hard.
We were able to see the What’s App Easter Parade and tried to snag pics but the reflection was too much off the windows, so you get this freaky composition
I told them all about why we call it the What’s App Easter Parade and they thought that our rabid chipmunk friend @Enchantedbythemouse sounds like a good time. I assured them she is!
It was pretty quiet at Enchanted Rose while we were there, and it was almost fireworks time, too - so I’m not sure why. We saw some fireworks off in the distance - but I never figured out what they were. They were not MK and they were not in the direction of Epcot (rather, they were kind of to the left and behind MK from where we were). Anyway, they were fun to watch.
It was about this time that my friends kind of begged me to go back to the resort.
Honestly, I could have stayed out quite a bit longer, and I really wanted us to get to Steakhouse 71 for drinks and that cake (!) but I took my cue from them since me and DFP did have an early and super jam packed day planned for Saturday.
So we hopped on the monorail and headed back.
We caught the fireworks on the way by which was pretty magical!
And, in retrospect our timing was perfection because we got back to TTC and the trams before the masses came after fireworks were done.
We arrived back at POFQ just after 10. We said our goodbyes to DFM and DFS who were on a very early (615am) flight home. And before long I was back at home, and settled in for the night
