Boneyard Closing Sept. 1, 2025

Just went to play around with my AK plan for October and had an Action Required notification that wasn’t there before.

Action Required before you can Optimize your Plan

  • The Boneyard is closed permanently on your current plan date.

Sure enough, according to the Disney site they are closing it starting September 1st. I hadn’t seen this noted anywhere else so thought I’d share for planning Fall trips and beyond!

I think it was just announced today.

My kids spent hours there over several trips. Lots of good memories. Hopefully something similar will replace it.

Yes, “Disney has also announced that a new themed play area is planned for the Tropical Americas land when it opens in 2027. No further details were officially announced.”

I take this as good news. It suggests they are making faster progress in the overhaul of the land than originally planned.

You’re funny.

I’m glad to hear this.

We took it out of rotation as none of the kids we brought ever cared a whit for it.

It seemed that way until I read this:

Disney says that Imagineering is making great progress on the new land, allowing the construction timeline to be pushed forward slightly.

Changing the closure date by 4 months is slightly.

If a quarter of a year amounts to slightly, what’s the total timeline

You see the glass half empty. To me, ahead of schedule any amount means they are motivated!

I’ll give you that

I’m glad something is replacing it for parents of young kids. Mine are now 22 and 16 so our playground days are long over but it was nice to have a place for them to run free and for us parents to sit and rest.

Incidentally, the most recent renderings of Monstropolis seems to show there will be a playground of some kind there for kids as well. Not really related to the Boneyard directly, but is something for kids in HS coming.

The Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground saved our first trip. It was nostalgic for me and DD5 had just had a meltdown about me being the planner, but she wanted to be the planner. I gave her a list of things we could do, and we spent 2 hours at that playground.

We loved that playground! (I will admit enjoying exploring it myself…but having my kids there made it seem less creepy! :joy:)
