Backpack/fanny pack

This is my first stroller less trip with kids so looking for a good way to carry around what we need. I am looking for a lightweight backpack that can hold 2 water bottles but I really like the idea of having my phone easy to reach. Would it be strange to wear a backpack and a fanny pack? Anyone have good backpack recommendations? I am looking for function over cute/stylist.

If the only thing you need to reach easily is your phone (and pockets won’t work) how about a phone lanyard/crossbody case + backpack? That’s my combo if I need more than fits in the fanny pack.

There are various “Sling Bags” available on Amazon with 2 water bottle holders. (Got them mainly for small lockers at Universal) Note that a large bottle would not fit good. Here are ours:

DW wore this last time and loved it. Just tuck in your shirt on thrill rides.

I did this - my DH made fun of me before the trip for this idea, but it was honestly amazing. I kept my wallet and phone in the Fanny pack (REI waist pack - https://www.rei.com/product/168489/rei-co-op-trail-2-waist-pack) and I wore my backpack as well. I kept waters and sunscreen and a change of clothes for the kids just in case in the backpack. I bought this one a few years ago and love it (I see they don’t make it anymore, but switching from a men’s backpack to a women’s backpack was a game changer - Gregory Backpack

I looked a little odd but it was the functionality I needed.

Messy hair don’t care

DW wears a small backpack and fanny pack when we’re touring. I wear a small backpack and cargo shorts.

Sometimes we ask the other spouse to get something out of one’s backpack (like a water bottle), it’s faster than taking it off and putting it back on :slightly_smiling_face:

Hat hair is cool hair :sunglasses:

I originally bought a new sling bag as that’s what I use daily for a purse (but it lacks the 2 water bottle holders) but the straps didn’t adjust to my size. Now thinking a backpack would be easier than a sling bag to take on and off for rides. The wallet case is an interesting idea!

Glad I’m not the only one with this idea. I know I can put my phone in my pocket but sometimes my pockets are a bit too small and doesn’t feel secure.

Love it! I am all about functionality!! I am going to order both and see how it works!

I use a backpack (Osprey Daylite Plus) and wear Bolder (formerly SparkleSkirts) skirts with tons of pockets, including a large zipper one that I use when I need my phone fully secured.

I have pretty much started using the Fanny pack exclusively at home - it’s really perfect for what I need most days. And then I keep using the same combo when I’m out and about - it worked well for chaperoning a field trip to the zoo too!

For Disney, I use both because women’s clothing don’t have decent pockets! I carry a sling bag for my water bottle, medications, nuimos, sunscreen, and car keys. I used to put my small wallet and phone in the bag, too. Now, I find it much more convenient to put my wallet and phone in a fanny pack. I don’t carry my fanny pack the hip new way. I’m a fuddie duddie and wear it around my waist!

Sharing for the fun of it

@love2plan I’d say it’s absolutely not strange :slight_smile:

I think it is fine to have both for all the reasons you have stated. Especially if you need to carry things for your kids!

Oh I will totally be wearing it the cool original way around my waist! I can match pictures from my visit in 1997 when everyone wore a fanny pack!

I actually prefer to wear my fanny pack this way, much more comfortable IMO

Next “big” Liner meet up, let’s count how many wear fanny packs each way. Kinda like the Mickey sandwich and Mickey Ice Cream Bar “discussion”.

Bolder skirts are fabulous. Love all the pockets.

I pretty much buy a new bag every trip on my quest to find the perfect park bag. Latest version I have is a backpack that is cooler and the shoulder strap has a zipper pocket that fits my phone (iPhone smaller size, 12 mini maybe?). The top half is a cooler but not insulated, I think it makes it more water resistant than a normal backpack, and where I keep sunglasses etc. Bottom half is an insulated cooler where drinks and snacks go. I really liked it.

Will try to link…

I like that it has 2 compartments, multiple pockets, and outside water bottle holders. How big of a water bottle can you fit?

I have a cooler backpack that the main compartment is one bottomless pit! It’s a bit much for me to use for Disney but perfect for hiking!

Have never really used those pockets but just did some experiments for you :grinning: it fits 32 oz Nalgene bottle very comfortably,

40 oz H2Go a little more snug but works
