Avatar experience coming

Probably not space for a full Pandora West, right? Guesses on what or where this could be?

I love visitng Pandora in AK. I like the scenery and lights. A single attraction? Meh.

In Disney’s own words as a part of their power play to the city of Anaheim, any new development at the space limited Disneyland requires taking something out to put something in…unless the city of Anaheim gives Disney the authority to re-structure their approvals for land use.

While Disney has the development rights and the desire to continue investing in Anaheim, the space to develop innovative attractions and immersive experiences is severely limited. Without broadening the uses allowed within each district or demolishing and replacing many beloved attractions, further integrated development and theme park investment are not possible

Unless something is under wraps/yet to be announced about a new agreement with Disney & Anaheim on the approvals, my bet is on something getting replaced to make room.

I’m curious to see which space of the existing parks it would be & how they would be able to fit in one whole attraction anywhere. The spaces that come to mind for me: the Hollywood Backlot area or somewhere between Matterhorn/Nemo Subs/Autopia as a part of the re-working of Tomorrowland/Fantasyland. But I can’t exactly reconcile Avatar with either Hollywood/bordering Avengers Campus or as a part of Tomorrowland/Fantasyland. So I’m stumped.

Any guesses as to which attraction? Flight of Passage? Na’vi River Journey? Something new (based on Water)?

Flight of passage is definately an epic ride. Funny that I would somehow feel cheated if it went i to Disneyland without the rest of Pandora (and also because AK is so limited right now, I want it to be special).

But I would be all about a new “Way with Water” ride that also eventually gets added to the expansion pad at Pandora!

That’s why I’m rooting for a new ride.

It would be a win/win!

I might be the only one to dislike everything Avatar ( unless it is Avatar the last Airbender :heart:) so if it is happening and might be a water ride may they take Nemo and retheme it. Or maybe GRR and retheme that.:rofl:

Someone on Facebook speculated it could be a Soarin’ “movie”. They could switch out which one is showing.

That’s a lot like what I’ve seen speculated on Twitter. And also seen it thrown out that this experience would fill in at the old Captain EO theater or maybe an Avatar takeover of the space where Star Wars Launch Bay was.

This blog post speculates on the possibilities:

Personally if I could have my way, I would recommend gutting the Autopia and possibly the Nemo subs (which they just barely refurbished, so there’s no way this is happening) and putting a Pandora there. But that’s just fantasy.

More likely, this will be a meet-and-greet or maybe a low-key attraction in the old Carousel of Progress building (or a demolition of that building and putting something in its place). I actually think Avatar is a good fit for Tomorrowland.

Just for fun, here is Pandora superimposed over Tomorrowland (with the legends aligned to make sure they’re at the same scale). The red line is the rough outline of Pandora:

IMHO you could totally fit it in there. But it will never happen – it would disrupt too much that’s going on in that corner of the park (monorail, subs, Autopia).

Come on people. Your getting a “Build your own [something Avatar related item]” and some themed bathrooms.

or replace the theaters? Like they don’t use the old Captain EO theater really?

But didn’t someone say if they took out Autopia they could put in a ton of rides?

Yeah, that’s my thinking! Someone once said the amount of space Autopia occupies is huge!

I was kind of thinking the same. An “experience” might be as simple as a meet and greet! I doubt it is a major attraction.

Then again, there are still 3 more movies coming out.

Or, if we are really lucky, a duplicate of the soon to be Epcot walkthrough “Journey of Water” themed to Avatar instead of Moana.

I’m really looking forward to Journey of Water but that is still hilarious! :joy:

We stopped near the entrance of it’s a small world to feed the younger kids a snack (while olders were on Matterhorn together) this last weekend and DH & I had a whole conversation about how much dead space there is between it’s a small world and all the way down to the corners of Tomorrowland (Captain EO theater, old Innovations/Launch Bay) and as we started to figure out exactly what would need to be re-worked to re-do the space we realized it would not only include the existing rides you mentioned but also old People Mover track & one end of the parade route (right there by it’s a small world) so there’s just so much logistically there that it seems like you’d need to raze/close most of Tomorrowland and not have a parade to pull off anything big like we want to see. And that’s when I realized why they re-did Toontown before Tomorrowland. A much easier, less convoluted space.
