Are magic bands still a thing?

We did update when we first got them, in Nov’22 or thereabouts. But I just paired mine to my new phone and it said it needed a new update. Maybe that’ll help. First I have to charge them though - they’re pretty run down.

I have mine in the small white cardboard box they came in, labeled ‘Disney’ on multiple sides. But that didn’t stop someone (probably me) from parking it on a nondescript shelf in the basement. DW had me checking everywhere.

Glad I could help spur MB thinking! I’ve never looked back from a phone perspective (has worked just fine across two DLR and one Disney Paris trip), but boy are the MBs fun to consider.

I’m in the process of changing jobs, so once I get more along, I suspect I will get the boys bands (at a minimum). My Mom wears an Apple Watch and I’ve been keeper of ‘all things’ on iPhones for all our trips, so I think I can get buy with buying two.

Yes! It lasted multiple days without a charge! I did put it on a charger durning the day for a little while after a couple of days. It is an improvement.

Thanks! I updated all my MB+. The update said it would improve battery life. Also, I turned off the bands which I didn’t know you could do - hopefully that will preserve battery life too.

Turning them off will slow down battery drain while they are just sitting around…but it will disable the Bluetooth features of the band (but leave the tap functionality intact). So if you want to use it for ride photos and such, make sure you remember to turn it back on!

I’m so happy to contribute something useful to this forum! I apologize in advance to anyone that doesn’t have an Apple Watch, but I want to share this with anyone who does. We hadn’t been to WDW for over 10yrs, so I had a ton to learn! I believe Magic Bands let you access the parks and your LL reservations, incredibly convenient! Also link to Photopass, very nice! Also room access at a Disney hotel, but we stayed at Swan so had to carry a room card. Also allows you to charge purchases to your room, but again only at a Disney hotel, so not at Swan. I carried Disney Gift cards and my Disney Visa. Magic Bands apparently also have a special effects feature during Illuminations and some other attractions. That didn’t matter to us 6 adults. NOW HERE’S THE POTENTIAL MONEY-SAVING COOL THING….if you have an Apple Watch, you can use it instead of a MB!! You need the Disney app on your phone, and your park tix linked to the app. Then you add your park tix to your Apple Wallet and give your Watch permission to access your Wallet. (So it’s just like setting up Apple Pay on your Watch.) Voila! You scan your Watch at the parks for admission, LL, and Photo Pass. 6 adults used it all week😁 I’m sure it would work for a parent that is managing their kids’ tix too, but that wasn’t our situation. Maybe a little more cumbersome.

Late to the party on this one but Attraction Tickets give MBs away with their Disney tickets. So if you’re not buying the tickets from Disney, check it out. I’m UK based so hopefully it’s a similar gig for the US site. You just have to pick them up from the Planet Hollywood shop at DS. Used them in 23 too.

This caught my eye as I just bought park tickets through Attractiontickets as they are running a nice sale. I checked and they said MB’s were not included with this promotion. Still a pretty good deal though!

Ah shame. Yeah the 15% deal now is pretty awesome.

I’m going to buy through Attraction Tickets too, just want to wait till next CC cycle, as I just put my DVC rental on my last one, ha.

It comes with Memory Maker, 14 days park hopper, and no advance park reservation requirement AND a fully refundable option (which is so great).

it’s slightly more ($75 each for refundable option) for us than buying 8 day non refundable convention park hoppers, but decided we will use it to take advantage of skipping the long line for MMVMCP 4pm entry and just breeze through security at 3pm, and perhaps more importantly, for refundable peace of mind.

Warning: MB+ can pop off quite easily and get lost. Mine popped off 3x on our trip last week, and 2 of them I didn’t even feel it. Luckily nice people returned it each time.

Most of the time it’s secure, it’s just if you bang it at the wrong angle it springs off. Going to look into one of those protector clips next time.

DW lost hers on 7DMT as we were leaving the loading platform. :man_facepalming: Never got it back. I have a theory that Disney found it but didn’t want to go through the process of returning it to us so they trashed it.

Yep. I have had mine come loose plenty. Once while flying in Tron! They have clips for them.

I must be really lucky. I wore my MB+ for 5 full days plus 2 partials at WDW, and it never fell off. I have slender wrists, and use a fairly snug setting. DH helped trim the excess length off before I ever used it.

I’ve never lost mine and I’ve had it for several trips now. :man_shrugging:

Edit: knock on wood lol

I have never had one pop off…but as a precaution, we use the little rubber things that slide on them to hold them better. They are too expensive, in my mind, to risk it.

Where did you get these, please?

I use these Amazon.com

I have lost a magic band before (I think it caught on my poncho and flung off) and so I swear by these. It’s caught my magic band a few times.

Another plus if you have a magic band - if you have young kids, if you get separated for some reason, a cast member can scan their band and use it to get your phone number and contact you. I witnessed this happening in a recent trip and it never occurred to me that the cast members could do this.

We bought them on Amazon years ago. The ones @cbalusek posted are similar. We bought packs with various colors to kind of match the bands that we put them on.

Incidentally, my 50th Anniversary edition MB+ came with one.
