Anyone ever done WDW with NO PLAN?

around here, i am known as the “Park Nazi” LOL … i plan obsessively down to. the. minute. as much as everyone teases me for it, they are always grateful for how smoothly the trips go. however, they are NOT relaxing! i mean, some parts are, but for the most part, we are ON A SCHEDULE. we’ve been to WDW enough times now (and the kids are old enough now) where i wonder about going with NO PLAN. just to wander and enjoy … is this even a thing?! :joy::joy::joy:

Yes. Plenty. But in more recent years (particularly with the FP+ system) it is hard to pull off. I liked it much better in the no-planning days.

Today, we still tend to plan little, other than work out which park on which days, for the most part.

My fall 2018 trip is a combo of scheduled and relaxed. I hope it goes well. The planner in me is freaking out, but I am still confident because we will have scheduled fast passes and ADRs, and a general touring plan in place. Also we’re taking midday breaks most days, but not all. Our evenings will be wander and enjoy with no preset FPPs. I suspect we’ve been to Disney enough times now that we can use these evenings to stop and smell the roses.

planning this trip for my brother … it’s their first family trip. relatively short – 4 parks in 4 days … my sister-in-law was almost in tears, overwhelmed by it all. so i’m trying to make it so that they don’t even have to think. just FOLLOW THE PLAN and ENJOY.

My binder is a Disney OneNote Notebook that I have shared with my family. It has everything in it and it’s accessible on our phones.

i still can’t help but fantasize about just going in early December when it’s not crowded and just wander, no pressure, no schedule … it seems like an impossibility!!

thanks, @disneygirl8710 ~ i’m a graphic designer … this is done in InDesign. but i did do most of “THE BINDER” in Word.

The problem is, sometimes “the plan” can make it harder to enjoy. Rather than enjoying the moment, you can feel enslaved to the plan.

What happens, for example, when you find something you didn’t think of or plan on, but doing it interferes? It can be stress-inducing!

We are naturally planners, my wife and I, but have found that when it comes to Amusement Parks, over-planning is just as problematic as underplanning.

My upcoming solo trip wasn’t scheduled until this morning, so I’ve got only 13 days to plan. Luckily, I’ve been enough times that I can just kind of wander. The only MUST DO things for me are CoP and SSE, so I’m just going to play the modify game and see what I can get. Of course, I HAVE to start at HM. so I’ll be waiting in line there until I get on, regardless of how long it takes. If you are flexible about exactly what you do/see/eat you should be OK without too much planning. I intend to eat only CS since I’m not generally too hungry in heat.

agreed, @ryan1 ~ i dream of finding a happy medium.

Makes sense- looks great!

@shelmach ~ a solo trip with no plan sounds like HEAVEN!

This is kinda easy for me - do I have a fast pass that I will miss? If the answer is yes - then we come back to said thing a little later. If the answer is no - we do the thing. ( like riding Aladdin back to back 3 times because there is no wait )

I hope so. I’ve never done it before, so I’m a little nervous. I’ll take whatever I can get with FPP and food.
