I have found the visitor toll pass to be super easy. I have a habit of leaving my magnet for my cell phone and my transponers in rental cars, so the toll pass is my prefereed option.
Which reminds me, I need to sign up for my June trip.

Once you pay for preferred parking for the day it is good at all parks that day.
I have arrived a couple of hours after opening and had a great space but I guess I have just been lucky.

It may depend on the park too.
My poor experience with late morning arrival was at AK
Overall though the preferred parking can be a great option. Especially before the trams were running again
