7-Month Booking Windows

DW and I are considering buying a resale contract and will need to be staying in 2BR for the foreseeable future (10-15 years w/1-BR after that). Likely times of stay are Jan-March and/or Oct/Nov. Best pricing is OKW or SSR resort. We would be happy with those resorts but would be buying enough to stay anywhere besides Poly and GFV. Does anyone have thoughts about the availability of non-home resorts at the 7-month booking window (particularly AKL)? We might consider bumping up the cost to buy at AKL prices if it is typically hard to get bookings for these times/room types, but don’t" need" to have that as the contract’s home resort necessarily.

I think Oct-Nov will be more challenging than other times. I have been able to change reservations for President’s week for studios within 7 months. Race weekends would be a challenge.

Just to add… willingness to do split stays will increase your 7 month bookings. I often do 2/3 nights at one then 2/3 nights at another depending on availability. caveat - my experience is as a solo traveler so probably a lot easier for me to consider split stays.

We own at SSR and I would say AKL is one of the more likely to be open at 7 months. We had JUST booked our October 2020 trip in March before the pandemic hit and we booked at AKL. It’s very large so that’s helpful. I would say the next 2-3 years are probably anyone’s guess though. Good luck!
