You need to poke around local TV stations and YouTubers and IG posters to see what is actually going on in NC. The national news cant properly report bc they have an entire world full of issues to broadcast. But the situation is dire dire.

I hear of some helicopter support but I’m suprised it’s not as much as it should be. This should be a top priority for the powers that be in our country.

Gregg ordered a submersible sump pump and used it to pump out the water in the basement yesterday. Oh, and we didn’t have flood insurance or the sump pump coverage. Beautiful.
Now the fun starts with clean up.

Definitely get all the applications in- FEMA, Red Cross, SBA. My MiL didn’t have flood insurance after Katrina. She was 4 feet off the ground. She was a victim of the levee breaking, Water just made it to her attic. I know aide is different now but applying for all the aide helped.
ETA: She didn’t get approved for everything but she was given a lot of information and resources that helped along with the aid she was provided.

Looks like a Central Florida Hurricane is going to happen this week. It is going to be called Milton. I am going to guess that WDW is going to be closed for at least one day this week (Wednesday)

Last night on the NewsHour the segment on the Carolinas and the damage featured a woman carrying water into her house to pour into the tank to flush the toilet. She said - without self pity, just matter of factly - this is what I’ll be doing for they say weeks.
Another segment last night showed a shelter in I think Jordan where there weren’t even flush toilets. More rubble.
I was hoping the woman carrying the water in the Carolinas did not have power cuz I know she’d feel bad for those folks. And guilty also.
We’re only human. We do what we can where we can. Some wise person told me that or something like it

We are scheduled to fly down on Wednesday- I actually have two flights booked (was rationalizing my way into a longer first day) - one arrives at 2 PM and one late evening. If this remains the picture neither may happen 
My mom has a small place in Ruskin and has been down there cleaning it out all week from the flooding they had. They saw Milton coming today and said, forget it. They are heading back home tomorrow.

To be fair, what’s happening in your region is truly incomprehensible for so many people. We are used to hurricanes in all forms. So many people here are just in disbelief on the amount of destruction. This is like nothing we’ve seen. Even Katrina. Because Katrinas worst damages in the city were man-made. This… this is the perfect 1000 year storm.
I hope for their sake they see no more damages. Hopefully this storm moves in and right back out quickly.
