Because of my job I get weather alerts. This was this afternoon’s
IDK but I don’t have time for that. I have a 10 miler on Sunday…
This map looks more like September
Hehehe nahhhh now it’s 4 again. It’s funny to observe it, though
Are you principal at a surfing school??
Superintendent and every super in the state will get weather updates. The Island schools may have to watch those storms out at sea. I believe the airports and boating communities get these updates too. That weather system is out there but shouldn’t impact us.
Since finding this post, I have a new tab opened to follow the formations. I’m happy to see there are now 3 and the possibility has lowered to 10% for now.
I have never been to MNSSHP and would love to be able to experience all the things, especially the Headless Horseman. The horse is just beautiful.
Now, I just need to find a few tidbits on the security info at the gates. I saw some earlier that AK was testing a new method and another Park, (maybe EPCOT?), was literally checking every bag. But, I am also acknowledging that it was FB and it’s not all true.
This is a lot to slog thru tho these are the guys that study the weather, bless them.
https://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/outlooks/hurricane.shtml
This was published about a month ago, superseding tho mostly agreeing with the report published in May.
Their tl;dr comes at the very end:
The main climate-related uncertainty in this seasonal hurricane outlook is the timing and intensity of the predicted La Niña.
If La Niña develops and has intensifying related impacts (reduced vertical wind shear and favorable vertical motions) through the latter portions of the hurricane season, the season’s activity will likely be near the upper ranges of this updated outlook.
(The above is from the last paragraph. First and last sentences) La Nina is in the Pacific Ocean, rather highlighting how difficult weather predictions are anywhere. We’ve just had the coolest summer in decades.
Our summer was by no means cool. We didn’t beat records, but it was coming close. We have been so dry, we have been fortunate to not have a crazy amount of wildfires this year in the western part of our state.
Sigh.
Y’all may recall we were out of town for Beryl. Apparently there was sustained horizontal rain for several hours. So, turns out that we did have water sneak into the house in a few places, judging by some dried, non-major water marks in several spots we found when we got back from vacation. Hard to say that long after the fact exactly what was happening and if there are things we realistically can tighten up or or it’s just what happens when there is ridiculous amounts of horizontal rain.
The true irony is that we had this gazebo we bought on sale well over a decade ago. It had been sitting in our guest room taking up space all those years until we decided where exactly to put it. We finally put it up in just this June.
Our petsitter took the canopy off to try to protect it, but a huge branch fell and took it out. So, it was up for almost exactly 1 month.
But, DH and the rest of the fam actually used it a lot during that month, so he expedited replacing it. Just finished it this week except for a few adjustments he still wants to make. And I just finished getting most of the leaves and etc cleaned up.
So, of course we are now facing another storm potentially headed this way.
I hope that next storm, and all other storms, stay away!
Oh no! So sorry about the gazebo. But that newer one looks much better, truth be told.
Praying that storm weakens or takes a people-less path.
Definite improvement on the gazebo.
What’s that open are other side of your fence?
I never can remember which is the worst hurricane side.
I really don’t mind if the cone of uncertainty veers a bit east
Shame about that Beryl moisture. I can’t recall a storm with the steady precip for 24 hours. This far inland.
Golf course.
I thought it had been mentioned elsewhere
I can’t imagine the run off to be dealt with if that area were concrete, asphalt and houses.
What does the “SIX” means? Is that its name? I thought storms would have a person name from the list
They start with a number and are named if they reach tropical storm level.
@drvillarejos You got your eye on the ball, yes? Looks like this one might be yours…
