12 Years in the Making: Our First Family Vacation

Today was a very rainy day in AK. We started off with Safari, saw a lot of animals enjoying the cool rain. We had breakfast at Kusafari (the guava and cheese danish is delicious!) Then we headed into Asia and rode Everest in the pouring rain (still fun!) and then hit KRR since we were soaked already. We got that Dino twice. Then the kids decided to go back and re-ride Everest while DBF tracked down coffee and I enjoyed a drink from Thirsty River Bar. The kids then wanted another shot at getting the Dino, so we adults enjoyed a longer break before meeting back up and heading into Pandora. We rode NRJ and FOP (my favorite ride) and decided we were too wet to continue. So we came back to the resort and relaxed. The kids had dinner plans with their dad who lives in Orlando. DBF and I went on a side quest monorail resort crawl looking to get a Monorail S’mores Brownie from Contempo Cafe for DD and a Mickey Chocolate Choux from Gasparilla Island Grill for me. DBF got himself a cupcake and we also picked up a few souvenirs including an Ariel bubble wand for DD for her 14th bday tomorrow. I think she’s gonna get a kick out of it. Now it’s time to sleep as we’re RDing GOTG tomorrow. Good night all!

Noted for my next visit!

Kudos for powering through all the wetness without complaint (here at least)! Sounds like a good-to-great day!

Oh what a day! It was DD’s 14th birthday today and I’m hoping we knocked it out of the park for her. We started in Epcot and RD’d GOTG. We were on the 2nd coaster and got Conga…again lol. The kids then rode MS (I bowed out ) while DBF and I hunted down coffee. Then we rode Nemo (it was my first time, that ride is adorable), checked out the aquarium, walked thru Journey of Water and headed into World Showcase. Stopped at Florida Fresh, DS got a Cubanito and DD got a strawberry shortcake. We headed to UK so DD could meet Alice, then France to meet Belle. Pictures and autographs which is always funny because DD can be quite shy and gets awkward meeting characters. But she loves to meet them!
After characters, we needed sustenance. We stopped at Les Halles for croissants and coffee/hot chocolate. Then back into Future World for SE and GOTG with a LLSP. And guess what? We got Conga…again. We are under the curse of Gloria Estefan
Then it was time to head back for a mid day break.

Back at the resort the boys took power naps while DD and I had a swim until the mid afternoon shower started. Pool water felt warm, rain water felt FREEZING! So we headed back to the room to get ready for MK. Tapped in about 3:45 and headed for TBA. Made it through with minimal water soakage then swung by Gaston’s Tavern for snack. DS and I split the Ham and Gruyère tart, DD and DS got cupcakes, I got a crème brûlée croissant (best thing I’ve eaten this week so far) and DBF put away the massive cinnamon all by himself lol. Then we rode UTS and Carousel. The kids stopped in to meet Tiana and Rapunzel quick before MAWTP. Then it was a trek back to Town Square for DD’s birthday dinner at Tony’s. Food was excellent, though it took forever to get seated. After dinner we headed into Tomorrowland for SM (not smart on a full stomach) and the kids took a spin on the speedway while DBF and I caught some fireworks. Our last ride was Tron with a LLSP. Really fun ride, though again, not smart to do on a full stomach. We hit a photopass on the way out and waited in the LOOONG line for a bus. We are pooped and very excited to sleep in tomorrow lol. Good night all!

Yanno, I thought you all really liked wearing headphones while out, but then I realized those aren’t headphones, they’re neck fans! How are these working out for your family in the Florida heat?

This is intriguing. Those neck fans must really be working.

Pretty sure you nailed it.

How long did you have to wait?

You got Conga…THREE TIMES!!!

Happy birthday to your DD!

These neck fans are amazing! Best thing I bought before the trip. We got them on Amazon.

They work so well! But we will have hot coffee/hot chocolate in 90 degree weather no matter what lol!

We were at the park at 7:20, and we were let over to line up for GOTG around 8. They let us through exactly at 8:30 and we waited maybe 10 mins and were off the ride at 8:48! It was so worth the early wake up!

We have one more ride this trip and I’m hoping we get something different lol

It’s going to break some kind of record if you get Conga again–not a contest you want to win !

Sending good thoughts and wishes that you break this habit!

What a great birthday for DD. I love teenager birthdays at WDW. They get to be both big and little (aren’t we all still getting some of both?).

How heavy are they?

For the longest that was the ONE song I never got. The time I did, the guy sitting in the row with me was hoping for…I think September since he hadn’t gotten that one yet and I was hoping for Conga. As soon as I heard that latin beat I stuck my tongue out and squealed. Thankfully that wasn’t when the ride pic happened. HAHA!

Not heavy at all! Half the time I forget it’s even there lol

I’ve been on GotG just 4 times.

All 4 times I’ve gotten Conga…I don’t believe any other songs exist!

I’ve done this all 4 times anyway! The first because I kept hearing it was the “worst” song to get, and the other times because it keeps repeating for me. If they took the pic right when the song comes on, I’d be laughing hysterically in all of them.

It is one of my favorites.

I am not a fan of “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” with it. Just doesn’t fit a coaster for me.

It does seem like that one would be slow. Conga is fun!

I agree–maybe doesn’t fit the ride. However, it’s the one I love the best and want most of all! Followed by September. We had Disco Inferno–it goes great with the ride!
