Upgrading Disney Dining plan

Hopefully someone has tried this and can give us an answer.
2 part question:
If I book a package at WDW (2 adults 2 children) can I get the adults on the regular dining plan and the kids on a counter service plan?
And if this package happen to qualify for the ‘Free’ dining plan will the above still hold true?

No everyone in the room has to be on the same plan.

No, everyone must be on the same plan. You can only purchase the dining plan as part of a package ( either with tickets or a ticketless package) but everyone must be on the same package.

Disney really needs to make an ala carte dining plan where you can buy credits or upgrade credits. It would be for those who want to go to a signature restaurant or want to upgrade a QS to a TS

I think that defeats the whole point on their end though. I’m sure a huge amount of their margin on the dining plan is from people having too many credits or the wrong kind of credits at the end of the stay.
